I just read on the other thread that Dell seems to be having massive delays with the XPS 1330's and Inspirons.

Well, I ordered mine on July 30th and it shipped today, (est. 15th). I was given a tracking number through DHS. I got next-day, so I hope to get it Friday.

I mean I'm kind of lucky since I'll have a week to tweak it before college. But I'm unlucky in the sense that I got no delays and hence no concessions/upgrades to my system.

I hope Dell didn't cheat me by giving me some crappy parts retired from older/returned laptops...

Would you guys rather have on-time delivery or free stuff with delays? I can see both sides of the story but I'd rather get free stuff. In the end, I think it's our wanting what we don't have.

PS. I have an espresso brown lid, I'll try to post some pics after I get mine since I couldn't find any espresso brown pictures before. People who are yet to buy a Dell can use it as reference.

Seriously, give Dell a break, they did what was asked, and they did it faster than most too. Id say that I would rather have my laptop then be delayed into SEPTEMBER! Just crazy to want anything more than what you paid for.

In your case, you have a week till college, I would be screwed if I had only a week to install programs, and transfer saved files ect. I would be delighted to have a laptop that popular ship so soon.

wow... this has got to be a first. Someone actually WANTING delays. You're welcome to take mine and the hundreds others lol. Dell doesn't guarantee you 'free stuff' if you get a delay. All they guarantee is a headache and a bitterness towards Dell, atleast to me.

the problem is that delays don't guarantee you'll get any freebies. Think about it this way: there are ALOT of people with delays and i doubt dell will give them all freebies. It really depends on what your complaining about... if its just delays it'll depend on your CSR...

I should've made it clear that I'm not an unsympathetic leech by any measure and I understand how hard it is to run a successful business. The point is NOT to want free stuff. The point is that Dell does not treat all their customers equally. Why do I get it on time and some others don't? Why do some people get freebies and others don't?

But I think a better option to choose before you place your order would be either:
    A. Guaranteed delievery by a certain date.
    or
    B. Est. delivery date with a $(Dell decided the amount) compensation if delay actually occurs.

Then we could choose either A or B as we see fit.

Read up on some of the delays before you post.

Part shortages are why people are getting delayed. You arnt delayed because you didnt order a part that is delayed. Simple.

The reason why some people get freebies is because well, the loudest one always gets heard. And some CSR's find it easyer to make someone shut up by giving away free things. Some CSR's dont really give a **** either way.

PS: Dell treats all their customers fairly... fairly ****ty... pun.
PSS: Have fun at University with a notebook! because some people are leaving in a week withought a notebook!.

I tryed to make that easyer for you to understand by making the more important things big. Universitys going to be tough for you kid.

    I know, im an ass.

LOL, funny man, and I mean it.

First of all, with 58 credit hours from AP/ACT testing, university is NOT going to be tough for me. And have you been to college, or school at all? I'd check the spelling of "tryed" if I were you.

Second of all, do you know what a rhetorical question is? Don't bother answering, that one was rhetorical too.

Nice, you can pick out a simple error in my spelling! WOOO!!!! Is that all you got against me, I can't spell "tryed"? Ohh im such a n00b then right? Sorry for my error english teacher.

If your going to start asking so called "rhetorical questions" make sure they dont already have an answer posted on EVERY SINGLE GOD DAMMED THREAD!

Also, theres not much use asking rhetorical questions if you want replies to a thread. I mean, you do want our opinions right? But sure, you know what a rhetorical question is...

Can't we all just get along?

To the OP, you ask a valid question and it's an interesting poll. Obviously from the results (as I write this), the "free stuff" people are not that far behind... but there's not much being posted on that side of things. The question is 'why not'? Afraid to get flamed? Or is it that the people who are delayed have bigger voices (and fonts, apparently)?

So count me in on the side of "not-minding-if-I-get-delayed-because-I-have-the-chance-to-get-some-free-upgrades". I don't mind saying it. But note how I worded it - not purposely rooting for delays, but to me it's not a big deal because I don't have the time pressure that some of you have, with needing it for school and such. That doesn't mean that delays don't frustrate me at all, but at least if I'm delayed, I can call and ask for compensation. As some have said, it's actually nice of Dell to allow for some negotiating. As others have said, it doesn't guarantee anything. But I will take that opportunity if it is out there.

Now, if my notebook does not ship in 2+ months, then we'll have this conversation again and I will edit the "HECK" out of this post. ;)

Im sure anyone here who needs that laptop by a certain time can agree that having a handout is no substitoution for a major inconvineince. Getting next day shipping for example, and not having it honoured... theres a good freebee you fell for. I would rather be delayed 2 months and get max 60 bucks compensation for that delay... if ofcourse I didnt need my laptop. Getting 50 dollar coupons you have to beg for, then wait 2 months, not my cup of tea. I mean, is it REALLY worth it? (rhetorical question for illini pride. lets see if you understand what that is this time hint: try a dictionary for the actual meaning, dont just assume you know what it means)

Thank you for the reference, but the espresso brown pictures really don't do it justice. You can tell those pictures don't tell a thousand words apiece :D .

I agree with you 100% on both parts. I'm never one to instigate a worthless fight, and I'd like nothing than to resolve an issue once it starts. And I'm sure delays all annoy the heck out of us, but Dell does make it better by offering compensations.

x_xeon_x, I've got nothing personal against you, and I hope you can say the same. I hope what I'm about to say can resolve what I think is a misunderstanding.

My first sentence in this thread is " I just read on the other thread that Dell seems to be having massive delays with the XPS 1330's and Inspirons." So I think your saying to me " Read up on some of the delays before you post." probably indicates that you weren't aware of the fact that I already have. I don't have to explain further what follows next.

    I hope that helps.

i dont start school for a month. i dont mind it being delayed for some compensation (free notebook sleeve?) or issued credit back!
