I have been playing Gears of war (medium-high res) & crysis at Low-med res. I know the XPS M1330 is a not a gaming prototype but I was quiet surprised at how fairly smooth the games were running- The fan was going hard that made me think- Can those game work up the laptop to the point where something MELTS. My old inspirion got so heated from runnin that the DC jack melted off the moterboard- I dont want my 1330 to endure that too-

    - and while im at it- How do I check my FPS during Gameplay?

Not sure what the deal is with the M1330, but on my 1530 while gaming the fans do run at full speed and everything but the laptop never actually feels that hot. The wireless card is really the only thing that heats up. As long as the actual laptop doesn't feel really hot to the touch I don't think you'll be melting anything.

As for FPS during gameplay, I personally use and would reccommend Fraps.

I wouldn't start checking FPS if I were you. What you find smooth now will be like a slidehow when you will know it's running at 20FPS (yes 40FPS to be smooth is a psychological phenomenon to me, most games are 25)

Just use Rivatuner. It tells you GPU temperature as well as FPS in a little top left corner that doesn't affect your gameplay.

I wouldn't start worrying until your GPU temps reach 90c.

When you're CPU is at 75C and you're GPU crawls to 80-90 - then worry. Other wise, you're fine. The system is designed to throttle down if it gets to hot, and shut off in an emergency.
