I purchased a refurbished B130 which arrived in new condition. However, the only cd's I received were for AOL, Word Perfect, and the oem XP. How many cd's came with a new one. If I format the drive, I will be missing the software for the dvd etc.

You have to request those separately from Dell. Try calling their tech support, and asking for them.

You're lucky you got any CDs at all. My new B130 came with a square piece of cardboard with a picture of a CD printed on it, telling me that they no longer ship the OS CD. Lucky for me that the Dell desktop PC that I bought my son in July 2004 still came with many CDs, including Win XP Pro (same as my B130.)

My second day with the B130 required a phone call to Dell Support to find out how to restore the machine using the Restoration Partition (or whatever the devil it's called) because Windows had become corrupt & all Help files and who-knows-what-else were missing. The tech support guy was top-notch, but when I asked about the CD situation, he told me that using their method I'd be back up & running in 15 minutes as opposed to the 1 1/2 - 2 hours for XP installation. He was right. No probs since. (Whew!)

    Regards,
    Lauren

His method is quick because it reinstalls all of the junk software. When you use the CD, it doesn't install the junk.

I know; that's the part that bites. I was desperate at that point because my old PC was at Death's door and I needed to do something quickly! I plan to run a thorough backup & then dump the junk with a reinstall when I have time. BTW, your Guide is terrific!
