    Ok...so, I picked up a M1530:

    T7500, 8600GT, 320GB HD, WIFI N, Blu-Ray, Bluetooth, 1050 LG, + 3 year Complete Care (accidental)

    All for $1300.

But....I can't help but think that maybe the Gateway FX laptop that best buy is offering is a much better deal with a 8800gts.

I know the strengths and weaknesses of both...yeah the 17 inch ismuch bigger and portability is great bt it just seems like the gatweay is such a killer deal.

I have option of returning the Dell if I want to, what should I do? I guess I just feel that the 8600gt is becoming obsolete FAST. Anybody else feel that way?

I don't feel that way - I think the 8600m is pretty solid especially with DDR3. It's not too far my 8800 GT in terms of "feel". Obviously the 8800m GTS is going to have a longer life, but the m1530 is thin and sleek. If you're considering moving to a beasty 17" then size isn't important to you, you might as well grab it and feel happy :)

No matter what GPU you choose, they will all appear to become "obsolete" very quickly. Thats the nature of laptop technology; the important thing is to understand that as long as the hardware can do what you need to do, the hardware isn't really obsolete (at least, not to you).

Yeah very true. 1) 17" is beastly. 2) hardware gets obsolete fast.

I guess I will join the OC forum and get as much out of this GPU as possible. Anybody else gonna try the AS5 Mod?

Hey, I noticed both of you are from Canada. I'm from TO myself, here in michigan for grad school But i'll be moving back + purchased the 3 year accidental warranty with the notebook.

What I want to know is how is dell Canada re warranty repairs up there? Do they botch stuff as much as they do here? Do you guys send it to a Canadian repair facility or does it go to an american repair depot?

In 2 years they will both be slow. But in 2 years the dell will still be slim and light where as the gateway will still be a cow...

Yeah I concur. You seem to have gotten a ridiculous deal (btw, how did you get all of that for 1300?). I would definetly stick with the m1530.

How does one know where you are from when you don't put it in your Avatar?

How else did you find that someone else was from Canada?
In their Avatar of course! ;)
