Since I need my laptop by 8/20.. and it has been in build stage for about 15 days now.. Im thinking its gonna delayed and I dont wanna take the risk of getting it after the date.. Now im willing to take into consideration alternatives that arent in high demand that I can get within 2 weeks..

I need a laptop thats.. fast.. extremely portable.. and I can do light gameing on it

Oo and my m1330 is suppose to be at my house by 8/9.. i ordered it 7/4

Did you opt for the LED screen? If thats what you want I think Asus, Sony, Apple (MacBook Pro) are only ones also using it at this time.

if you're really that worried about your m1330 not coming you could order something else and still keep your m1330 order? I'm not sure of the return policy for other companies but im assuming its similar to dell's 21/30 days. So if your dell does come by then you could return the other one... or if it doesnt come at the end up cancel the order entirely at the end...

Insipiron 1420 or Vostro 1400 with the 8400M graphics option? You could order one of the two with your current 1330 order and see which one comes first.. I find it hard to believe you wouldn't have your 1330 by 8/30 though.

Sony SZ6 thats coming out on august 1st, its actually a bit cheaper than the M1330 with the same specs. pretty much same size and weight too and both has LED screen, geforce 8400m gs and santa rosa

M1330's advantage is in the slot loading optical drive, and 128mb of dedicated memory on the 8400gs video card vs 64mb version on the SZ6

SZ6's advantage is the ability to turn off the 8400gs with a button to save power, as well as hybrid hard drive that has onboard flash ram for faster access speed and less battery drain.

Where have you seen the SZ cheaper?

Every spec i've seen so far for that notebook has been over $2000. Enlighten me please.

I'm also keeping my options open while i wait and ran across the new asus 14" notebooks coming out soon. One comes with a 8600gt and the other with an 8600gs. They are also cheaper with the only thing missing being an led screen.

Well, Seeing as the problems with the m1330 dont seem to settle, ive been seeing other laptops as a plan B if this gets too troublesome.

Anyway, the ones ive been checking out are:

    http://www.excaliberpc.com/Asus_V2S-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T7500/partinfo-id-580882.html (Asus V2S for 1749 us)

http://www.excaliberpc.com/Asus_F9S-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T7300/partinfo-id-580883.html (12 incher, 8400 gs, A LOT cheaper which means i could get 4 gigs for it and about the same weight, minus the LED)

http://www.excaliberpc.com/ASUS_F8SV-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T7500/partinfo-id-580899.html (and this baby right here, which, excluding the weight, looks pretty awesome)

So what do you think? and what other "plan b"s do my fellow m1330 would-be owners have?

I got some suggestions at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=141704.

I'll have to see if I can check out a T61 in person. I'm not sure I'll be able to see a D630. I'm a bit hesitant to buy a "white book" laptop. Although I've owned many Asus mobos including the one in the machine I've used now, I've never known of anyone w/an Asus laptop... so I'm a little hesitant.

Yeah yeah... most laptops aren't made by company w/the named stamped on there but rather by ODMs such as Quanta, Inventec, Compal, Arima, etc. but still...

I did really like my T41, so I hope you find one to check out. I saw a pretty large display of T61s while going to my movie theater, of all places! Anyway, I cannot imagine why anyone would want the widescreen. It just looks hugely clunky. So definitely check that out before buying. The basic screen looked a lot like all the other T series, but when I look at the specs, it is slightly bigger and weighs slightly more. still, Lenovo has that really nice keyboard, so I think that makes it a good alternative to Dell. Haven't heard great things about their shipping times either though!

Any idea where can I see any one of these in person? I went to a Sony Style store in Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara/San Jose, CA and they didn't know jack about the SZ6. I had to show them the BTO B2B web page and they were like "oh, we don't do B2B... We don't the have any... maybe we'll get them next month..."

I've never heard of Portable One as a brand until today so that makes me a little hesitant...

edit: Whoops, I have "heard of them" but didn't realize that these are Asus whitebook laptops.

Song Viao! That sounds like a cheap Chinese knock-off.
(I found a display of Cloake shoes in the local shop the other day - it took a close look to discover they weren't Clarkes)

But seriously... I saw somewhere that Sony do not support virtualisation on the SZ (at least SZ4). Then I found an interesting article at http://www.chinatechnews.com/2006/08/09/4159-chinese-consumers-sue-dell/

It is one of several news stories about Chinese consumers suing Dell because when they opened their Inspirons they found they did not contain the T2300 processor shown on the order form but had cheaper T2300E CPUs which do not support some virtualisation features (I guess that means the hypervisor?).
[I suppose it might be safer if your machine is not vulnerable to the blue pill?]
So I am guessing this is also true of the Sony SZ.
    What about the M1330??
    and does it matter?

It may be possible to determine what the chip supports using Securable from GRC: http://www.grc.com/securable.htm
(that is a safe and reliable site, by the way)

While I am here - the same Chinese news site had some other Dell articles which caught my eye:

Dell To Launch Fashionable PC Brand In China June 13, 2007
(which I guess means the M1330)
    http://www.chinatechnews.com/2007/06/13/5512-dell-to-launch-fashionable-pc-brand-in-china/

Pity they don't seem to be delivering the M1330 in China yet... or at least I don't have mine. EDD 3-Aug but still in Build.
