Ok, I have heard that if you buy a new dell laptop by phone that you can get a better deal then ordering online. I am not a huge phone person though. Does anyone know if you can get the same result by emailing a sales rep.

Suck it up and call them. It saved me an extra $100 on an already great deal, plus free overnight shipping!

It is better to do it by phone. Because the sales person gets to knows you as you are building your computer. They will make suggestions.
The first thing they may want to know is, what is your cut off limit, and how much do you want to spend. and if they can, they will find you some discounts, and you should ask them as well, if they have any deals as well. -
Ok, in the thinking of they will ask me wat my cut off is, then do I tell them less then I actually can spend and then they will try to discount me to there or do I come right out and tell them the 1600 I want to spend.
-
Come to them as if you really want to spend that $1,600
Okay for instance. I told them that my cut off was $1,500
and he said ok, and then we started building, and we stopped at $1,262, but that was because he gave me some discounts.
so by the time we were done with tax and everything else. the total came to $1,351
Just make sure you stress that $1,600 is all you can afford. They will understand totally.
and ask questions as well. I was going to add an hd dvd drive, and I asked him, does he think it is really neccesary to add it to my laptop and he told me no.
We both decided that the Hd is not a big neccesity because it is not like movies are only being made in HD. -
nvm found the answer for myself
