Wow! I'm amazed. I guess Dell must have worked out their paint problems somehow.

There is no colour configuration update here in the UK, as yet.

Oh wow. Dell is being extra greedy again.
The choice of color used to be free right?
Now it's $50 to get red or white...
Dang. The M1330 is getting really really expensive now..

It's probably to dissuade people from buying it.

By raising prices, fewer people laptops (To make up for the delay), but still make the same amount of profit.

    I don't understand.
The fact that they changed it from "Pearl White" to now "Alpine White", does it mean it's different? As in, they probably never solved the problem and decided to use the same method to paint the cover as the other models that gave you the option to pick Alpine White. Just my two cents.

You're probably right. Alpine White is what they used for the Inspirons, and that is an enamel white, not microsatin.

I don't recall the Pearl White being microsatin. I always though it was just a glossy finish, different from the microsatin finish of the Tuxedo Black and Crimson Red.

Pearl White uses the same as car paint. The pearl dust is added into the base paint and the finish is a clear coat.

I am going to repost some of what i posted in the other thread-
    -----------------------------------
Pictures of the Alpine white finish on an Inspirion model

    And on the XPS M1330
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=169314

Dell posted this when the pearl white was discontinued.

Who knows what they are doing now?
    ..............................................................

If you look on the Dell website it appears that all 3 models are now described as having a microsatin finish. The finish on the old pearl white was different from the crimson red and black XPS.
This is what it said for the old pearl white.
I think that it does look like the new white models have a different finish. As i said in the other thread i think it is good that Dell are bringing the white XPS back whether it is glossy or matt as it gives people more colour options. This now kind of completes the line up.

Early receivers of pearlescent white reported it is very pearly with flashes of colour in low light. Mine has no pearliness whatsoever (despite being sold as pearlescent white) It is just plain old while like a Honda Civic or a Fridge/Freezer so I suspect one of the first of the Arctic white. Still looks cool and as it's glossy it doesn't show fingerprints unlike the red and especially the black.
I compared this to the Macbook the other day - it's definitely more modern looking - the mac looks chunky and like it's made of lego in comparison

as long as it's white, and glossy, it's all gud. now the fact that it doesn't show fingerprints is just another bonus!

Yeah, I had an M1210 in the satin black and I was forever having to clean the lid to make it look presentable. It drove me nuts. With the white M1330 I haven't cleaned the lid since I got it. It is as bright and shiny as the day I got it. My co-worker has a red one which marks, but not quite as badly as the black.
I've had it a month now, and no buyer's remorse whatsoever - which is rare for me. Now all I have to do is find a bag that is as good looking as the m1330.
