    Hey guys

I got a XPS1530 and find that some web browsers take ages to load up, not to mention any names ..... cough cough.... IE7

Just wondering with all these new browsers coming out like Firefox 3, Opera 9.5 and the new IE8.

What is your weapon of choice.

    OK

Did that and seems quite good, I am quite new to FF3 so have not looked through all the add-ons and what they can do and help.

But how do you stop that script bar from showing at the bottom on every site you go to?

Thanks for that, good job M8

Firefox by far. I left IE behind when 7 came out and crashed all the time. I require a browser at work and it sucks when you have 10+ specific pages open and IE7 crashes.

Looks like some mass improvments on IE8 though

Especially with this web slicer, which looks cool for e-bay.

And this new surf private, I think they are calling it **** Mode LOL.

Will wait for some tried and tested results after beta ie8 is finished.

I think this will probably get moved, doesnt really fall into the Dell catagory does it, But for somereason you get better and faster replies on this forum.

i use firefox3 with some add ons. IE is just slow motion compared to FF3. it would be good to keep IE tho. some pages only work with IE, so its good to keep IE for those instances.

i use forecastfox to display weather near my task bar. i also use foxytunes to control my winamp at the bottom of my web page. foxytune works for most of yur popular media player programs.

On my 1530, IE7 loads up instantly. Pages load as fast as 1) IE-order renders them and 2) my connection will allow :p...

I did do the reformat (sticky on top of this forum) and Vista tweaks. Vista is fully booted under 30 seconds and shutsdown in 4.

NOTE: Yes, I do use IE7. I also use Opera and Firefox. A Web Designer has to test his pages under all common browsers, and this until browsers start to follow W3C Standards and they all stop creating their own standards.

There is no such thing as a perfect browser... heck, there is no better browser.

Yeh true each to their own I guess and whatever you like.

I wish I had gone for the 7200 HDD instead of the cheaper 5200rpm

Thats probably why im getting some slow speeds on start up and just general work.

Too late now, tried finding a 7200 for my lappy, but dell want an arm and a leg for them, and cant really find anything cheap.

UK they are almsot 100.00 pounds

    Hey

I have always sorta used FF3, but had some real issues with number 2.

But 3 seems so much better, My friends use IE, and I keep telling them FF all the way, but they are just stuck.

I have noticed so many things about IE so I switched.

But was interested in opera, maybe safari, just wondering what everyone thought.

And once again its FF that comes up trumps.

    Thanks guys, sticking with FF.

IE8 won't be out for several more months, but FF3.0.1 has been out for awhile now and Opera 9.52 just recently came out.

Opera... always (unless some sites dont work, then FF3)

-> no other browser can take up 20 open tabs + 150-200% zoom without lagging, not even FF3.....

and (almost) everything's included with an Opera installation, besides flash and java.... everythign i need (popup blocker, true page zoom, content blocker, download/torrent manager, notes...)

Opera Portable, one time use application, good for usage in public computers ....

    or Opera+Tor (google it)

Well I use Sarafi on XP (probably going to switch over to FF3 for portability,) and I have to say it's a really nice browser. Pages load really fast, it's easy to use, and it only takes up a 100 pixel section of your screen. So it looks very nice, but also, because it's gray, it doesn't distract from the webpage, and there are no borders when it's maximized. So it really looks good. And in terms of "browsing" it does a good job.

I haven't used FireFox 3, but I fell in love with Opera for performing so well on my 6 year old laptop.

And now I use it all the time :) Fast and stable even under high load. My FireFox would get unbearably slow after a ten+ tabs on my 6 year old lappy. Opera handled like twenty+ tabs with no sign of slowdown. I was really impressed. FireFox is really nice, too. Internet Explorer is ok to use, but not the greatest for a poweruser.

    Hey

I was opting just to try opera to see what it was like.

Mind you I dont open 10-20 tabs.

Can I ask a stupid newbie question? How do you open another tab in FF manually so you dont have to start another browser?

    Thanks.

I really what to try that opera to see what its like, Does it have that thing FF has were you dont get all those cartoon adds all the time which take ages to load up.

Im saying ages I have a 10mb broadband, so imagine when it was dial up, and that was a massive thing, and then 512kb, how things change in a short time eh!

u test out browsers... and i found one that fitted me... configed it to my liking, and stayed with it

as psygn said... Opera doesnt lag for me at all under any conditions... my old pentium 3 laptop with 256mb ram... it runs fine..

EDIT: and theres a HUGE benefit that Opera gives over Firefox.... that it's coded as a true MDI document..... i can casade 2 tabs horizontally or vertically so that i can compare directly between the two pages

    Thanks for that royk50.

Might try opera on my XPS and keep firefox on my Desktop, and test for a while.

Why is it the smaller companies always come up with great products, but when someone like gates has billions, he cannot come up with a good browser like FF or Opera.

    IT BOGGLES THE MIND.

Been a Firefox user for more than 4 years now, will never go back to another browser as I see it now.

Though I do need some extensions: Adblock plus (and updater), cookie culler, context search (every search engine is available through right click, just not the active one), Greasemonkey, menu editor, NoScript, Tab Mix plus, Url Link (or a similar extension) are vital. Then comes the extensions I could survive without: DOM Inspector, Edit Middle, FireFTP, FlashGot, ForecastFox, Googlepedia, ietab/ieview, web developer.

With those extensions installed I can do everything I want with the browser, unlike IE which makes me totally handicapped when it comes to browsing.

I use Firefox x64 for most browsing when I'm on x64 systems. Firefox and IE are the only two Windows browsers with x64 versions. Firefox 3.0 fixed a lot of the memory leak problems in Firefox 2.0. Firefox 3.0 has the best memory characteristics of all of the major browsers now. Firefox 3.1 will come with some significant improvements to Javascript performance.

    To be honest

now looking at all the add-ons I can get I am sticking to FF.

It has never really done me wrong, apart from FF2 which was quite bad to be honest, I was always getting errors, slow speeds ect..

But FF3 has solved all that.

Thanks for all your input guys, it has helped me to no end.

But it will be for the final time, as have given IE so many chances, and has always let me down.

But like the new features of IE8 like annon surffing, and that web slice thing

i got a problem with FF 3.01 on vista ... i use the bookmarks function on google toolbar quite often... however, everytime i start a new FF and try to access the bookmarks, it'll lock up like 5 seconds ... after FF returns, everything runs just fine, including the bookmarks ... it only happens on a newly started FF and the bookmark function is fine on IE ... has anyone else experienced this ? thanks in advance for any solution come up ...

p.s. i have tried reinstalling FF and google toolbar, but the problem still exists ... kinda annoying

Software engineers can get fat and lazy without competition. I thought that Microsoft Office was awful. Until 2007 - Open Office provided the competition to Microsoft for them to put out a much improved product - which I actually spent money to buy.

Firefox is an amazing upgrade from IE. Completely customizable (addons, skins, etc), and its much safer. No more spyware and viruses are much less common!

If you do get it I recommend Ad Block Plus...it's the best FF plugin.

One thing that surprised me about IE7 versus Firefox is Firefox actually not only renders standards compliant stuff better than IE, it also, VERY consistently renders stuff designed for IE better than IE!

It was really painful when I had to use it the other day (so I could have two connections to the same site open at the same time on the same 'puter). I actually switched to Safari, and was surprised I liked that experience better (because I don't like it anywhere near as much as Firefox).
