Nice! I'll be selling my 1420 in June of 2010. I'm sure my 1520 will be gone long before that ...

The LED display option was one of the features that sold me on the Studio 15! It's a beautiful thing......

I found this in a recent Dell PR and thought I might share.

Dell Driving Transition to Energy-Efficient LED Displays

"Dell plans to transition all of its new laptop displays to light-emitting diode (LED) in the next 12 months, a major achievement in its commitment to become the ‘greenest’ technology company on the planet.

    ...

"Effective Dec. 15, 2008, two-thirds of Dell LatitudeTM E-Family laptops will be shipped with mercury-free LED back lighting as a standard feature. This includes the Latitude E4200, E4300, E6400, E6400 ATG and E6500. Also shipping with LED back lighting as a standard display will be the Dell Precision™ M2400 and M4400 mobile workstations."

So this means that standard resolution LED displays will then be available.

I'm curious as to how this will change the WXGA+ cost on the E-series.

If they are still going to be TN-based panels, this isn't such a great news.

For most consumers, that is plenty good enough.

So long as there are still matté options, it sounds great. But that's a question regardless of screen type, so I say cheers!

I have a matte LED on this Dell, it is so awesome compared to glossy screens!

I thought we'd all be living, or at least vacationing, on the moon by 2010.

Oh well. This is still good news I guess.

When I am looking to configure a Studio 15 or xps1530 I don't see an option for a matte screen. Am I missing something?

    Thanks

No, they dont offer matte screens. You're stuck with glossyness.

    ICK! Glossyness! *hiss*

Agreed, that's one reason I went Latitude. I can't stand the glossyness of other screens (although I admit that the one on the aluminum 24 inch iMac in my uni's computer lab is not too bad.)

Forget the LEDs, I want the OLEDs instead. Hopefully by then the manufacture will be affordable. Imagine having a screen that's foldable!
