    Hallo,

Hello, we don't have a lot of German speaking people on this forum, I'll translate that to English:

Basic question: Can any notebook work WITHOUT battery, so only by power supply? The reason for this is that my old Dell Inspiron 1546 suddenly turns off when I connect the power supply. After that, I have to remove the battery, reinsert it and can switch it on, but only if the power supply is NOT connected. Now I have never tried before, whether it would also run without battery. Now it does not work anyway! Which Dell owner can help me there? Or should you buy only very high quality of these batteries?

It sounds like you should try finding a new power cord or battery, one or the other is causing the issue here and it's going to involve experimenting. You should be able to run a laptop that's plugged in without a battery, but if you unplug it then it will of course immediately turn off.
