I'm a little dissapointed that the Dell D620 doesn't come with a DVD-Rom drive, and it seems like a bit of a rip off to have to pay $60 just for a DVD reader.

I've been looking around and there are some aftermarket drives, like this one:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827129003
    that really catch my interest.

For just a little more, it's a DVD-burner, and it's a slot load which I'm quite fond of.... Dell doesn't even offer slot load drives.

I'm just curious to know if this will fit in the D620.
    Does anyone know?

Any answer to what drives can, or cannot fit would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Should I post this in the Aftermarket hardware forum?

I figured I'd try it here first since this is a Dell specific question.

Anything anyone can tell me about fitting after market drives in a D620 would be helpful.
    Thanks :)

I think it might be difficult to swap out the drive on the latitudes, because there is a modular compartment that is swappable with other devices (i.e. media bay battery, second hard drive). This is different than the inspiron, which is not swappable. Also, I am not sure about the warranty status if you put in an aftermarket dvd drive.

On the bright side, I think that you can dvd/cdrw drives on ebay for about $60 or dvd rw for $100. These should be slide right in without any rewiring. You need to look for the genuine dell parts on ebay.
