Hi, i'm having the following problem which is mildly annoying: very often when my laptop wakes up after suspended mode the resolution is one notch lower - ie instead of 1440x900 i have 1280x1024 or whatever it is.

    Does anyone know why?

win xp pro, t7200/2gb/60gb hdd etc.

I had this issue with a Dell 1705 I ordered. Let me guess. You have windows Vista Premium. I suspect it is tied into the Synaptics touch pad. I know that sounds strange. However, try uninstalling the default dell driver for your touchpad, and go to Synaptic's web-site and re-install the driver from there. I think it is a port conflict or something. Also, I noticed that when this happened, I never received the logon screen, i.e. the screen asking me to type in my password. Try adding a user, i.e. forcing it to ask you to enter a password to logon to your system. I know all these things sound weird, but I assure you dell tech support is no help. At least phone and on-line support. I spent countless hours on the phone/on-line with them, and the issue was not resolved. I would think it was, only to have it re-occur a couple of days later. Your best bet would actually be to simply send it back to Dell, and have them resolve the issue.

Mm, nope, your guess is wrong ;) I dunno why you even tried to guess since i wrote what OS i'm using in my first post :))

I'm using TinyXP Rev 03 (which is basically a trimmed down windows xp pro). Unfortunately i dont have any canadian warranty with Dell since it was bought in USA. So i guess i'll have to deal with it.

    Or try vista ;)

Install VNC, close the lid (but don't let it go into sleep/suspend mode), connect to your laptop via VNC and change the screen res to what you would normally view it at. TADA!

I've had to do this with countless Dell laptops......it's annoying.

Thanks a lot, i tried to do it but when i connected to my laptop using UltraVNC from my old toshiba laptop and went to Screen Resolution, it didnt have the 1440x900 option - only 1440x1050.

I used powerstrip to set 1440x900, but i'm not sure if it'll help :)
