Well I got my E1405 and so far I am very happy with it.

No dead pixels, battery life seems pretty good, and the laptop is very comfortable to use.

I formatted with the XP MCE 2005 disc that came with it and installed all the drivers I could find. As far as I can tell I can do anything I need to with my laptop (bluetooth, wireless, video card, sound, etc.) but device manager shows 3 items with missing drivers all labelled "base sytem device".

Any idea what that is and how do I get the drivers installed?

Have you installed the chipset drivers? The disk dell sends out is pretty crummy--always go to the website.

Yeah, I downloaded/installed all the drivers I could find for the E1405 from Dell's website not their CD. I only used their Windows backup CD.

Install the Dell NSS...it is needed for all the devices to work properly.

You need to install/reinstall the Ricoh drivers under the Chipset section. Most inspirons require two chipset drivers - the intel one which is what most users download, and the ricoh for the 5 - in 1 card reader. I think there is something weird were you have to install the Intel one first and then the Ricoh
