    Ok here we go.

I am entitled to apply for the vista upgrade disc but before I do I would like some advice please.

    Questions:

    1. After reading many threads on various forums is it worth the upgrade yet?

    2. If I do get the upgrade DVD and use it but find out for some reason I want to reinstall my Dells MCE os, will I be able to without licence problems or will I be stuck with vista?

    3. If problems could arise from question 2, Would it be best to wait a while and buy a retail version of vista and then have the option of what os to use out of the two and when.

Advice appreciated and thanks in advance.

I have multiple laptops but I'm only running Vista on a new desktop, so far, so you can take my comments with a grain of salt. First, I really, really like Vista on the (HP) desktop - the Aero interface is very nice and it runs very well for me (1-Gb RAM + 1-Gb of ReadyBoost). That said, I would hesitate to upgrade given all of the current problems seen on the forums. I haven't tried this - but I don't see why you would have any problem validating a re-install of MCE. I re-installed MCE2005 on my e1505, using the restore CD, with no activation problems. Anyway - I like Vista enough that I sold my excellent e1505 in order to fund the upcoming Santa Rosa e15xx - hopefully in April or early May. Last thing, I don't like Vista Premium so much that I can justify paying $158 for the retail upgrade version.

    Thanks for the reply JellyGeo,

Glad you like vista on your desktop. I know I will have to move on with the os soon but I'm really trying to work out is it worth paying for this upgade to be delivered or to purchase a full retail version after many of the bugs etc etc get sorted.

I was just reading throught the Dell site about what you need for the upgrade proccess and the bit about suppling your COA serial number kinda got me thinking that it may be difficult to re activate my Dell MCE disc.

    Anyway thanks again
