    Your thoughts please...

    I need a desktop replacment, I want a high powered laptop that will do it all my Photoshop work, AutoCad and what have you, I'm not really looking for somthing to lug around much size doesn't really matter aslong as I can take it out of the house once or twice every couple of weeks when I need to otherwise it'll sit on the desk or down stairs in front of the television.

    I already own the tiny Sharp Actius mm10 only half an inch thick and just over the size of an A5 sheet which is perfect for taking around running on a 1 Ghz Crousoe processor Windows XP Pro Office 2003 Built in wireless great for surfing the net, word documents and outlook, now what I need is a machine for everything else when at my desk or at some lan party else where once or twice every couple of weeks.

    I was thinking more towards a Dell Inspiron 9100/XPS? or 9200?

    Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz or a Pentium M 2.0 Ghz Centrino.

    Should I go with the full on P4 Desktop Replacement with 1 Mb Cache or an Optimised Centrino?

    I read that there is an XPS 2 being released..will it be based on the P4 or Centrino? If I want full on prefomance should I go with the Pentium 4 or Centrino as the XPS it quite bulky and has a shed load of fans making it as cool as 'Not Exactly' but as cool as any P4 desktop? If Centrino is so good then when are they releasing them for desktop PC's? Mobile Processor? Making the XPS not so Mobile? Are you getting my Drift? Pentium 4 Much better?

    You might want to consider taking a look at the i9300, when it becomes available in your region.

    Dell Inspiron 8600:
    * 1.6 Ghz Pentium M * 1024 MB DDR SDRAM * 100 Gb Seagate Momentus 5400 Rpm HD * 15.4" WSXGA+ * Internal Bluetooth * Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 * 4x CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) * ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo 128 MB * Win XP Pro SP2 *

    * Apple 17" PowerBook G4 * 14" Toshiba Tecra 8000 * Apple 14" iBook G4 *

    The XPS 2 is built on the Pentium M platform. Get a PC with dedicate video. Consider the 9300 or XPS 2. The Pentium M at the higher speeds are similar to P4 Performance. Multiply the Pentium M speed (ie 1.5 Ghz) x 1.6 to get the equivalent speed. Pentium M is optimized for battery life. If you don't foresee using this machine at all for mobile use look at the Pentium 4 or AMD 64 Processors.
