How hard is it to add a 1GB stick to a D820?

I am needing to save some cash on the purchase and thought about getting the 1 DIMM GB and upgrading later.

My question is - I've never taken one apart before so wondering how hard it is to add?

    Thx in advance.

It's not hard at all. On the bottom of the D820 you will see a few panels that can be unscrewed. Dell is very user friendly with this, and I think they will even have the right panel marked. Anyway, you need to take the cover off the RAM compartment and you will see the stick(s) of RAM. It's easy to change it, the RAM usually just snaps in and out.

Thanks - here are the two options on the D820 for 1gb. It doesn't seem there is a 1 dimm option where i could just purchase 1 more stick at newegg...

1.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS [Included in Price]

    1.0GB DDR2-667MHZ,2 DIMM,LAT,FACT

    Am I reading wrong?

No, you are reading it right. Seems that no 1DIMM 1GB option. I wonder what that "LAT,FACT" part of the second +$70 option means.

I have no idea what LAT,FACT means either, but $70 for a somehow subtly different 1 gb of ram is silly.

    Here's my suggestion:

Pick the cheapest option, probably 512 MB.
Then you can add 1 GB from newegg to get a total of 1.5 GB.
OR... ditch the 512 MB it came with and add 2 sticks of 1 GB from newegg.
(Each 1 GB stick from newegg costs around $50.)
