Maybe a silly question/"issue", but I've found myself in a weird position. I use a laptop for a lot of noteset maintenance, email, and other things as needed for medical school, and I'm on the picky side, so little things -- faults -- bother me about computers. Posting this here to get a comparison from people who may be more in line with PCs, especially the pre-XPS Adamo, than the more devoted Mac fans; mods, please don't move the thread :)

Have a 15" MBP from the Summer '09 refresh, an Adamo, and a tablet in my possession. Obviously, two of them need to go; let's assume I nix the tablet. I'm a big notewriter in the sense that I don't think I'd want to type all of my notes into OneNote (or equivalent), but let's assume I nix the tablet.

I am not an Apple fan in the sense that there are so many Apple fanboys. OSX is nice -- I see the appeal -- but I could live with Windows 7 just fine. On the other hand, few laptops/companies have Apple's customer service, aesthetically pleasing hardware design, and performance all in the same package.

I think that the Adamo looks better than the MBP does, but the MBP also has better speakers, a nicer display, a larger display, far more powerful hardware, and -- if only in OS X -- much better battery life.

That said: would you still keep the Adamo and return the MBP? If so, why; if not, why not?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

If you don't use OS X and just need it for those simple day-to-day tasks, keep the Adamo.

The MBP has far more powerful hardware. But I don't see the point of keeping it around if you use Windows mostly and if you don't need the extra horsepower. While the MBP does run Windows, the Dell Adamos does also, for less. Plus the Dell has better driver support for Windows.

On the other hand, if you do regularly stress your Dell Adamos' processor, then I'd keep the MBP.

    Thanks for the comments.

Any others? Always open to someone trying to talk me into the MBP.

Hmm... seems like the only reason I'd spring for the Adamo is that I think it looks nice -- and I wouldn't be iffy about the Apple "stigma". I don't have anything to prove with a friggin' laptop. :p

Beyond that, the MBP still has the nicer/larger screen, wonderful build quality, what I consider great sound for a notebook, better hardware (even without me putting in an SSD), ... .

The MBP has better hardware, ya. But I figure you are in Windows all the time, so just use a PC. If you want to run both, then go with the MBP. I'm a PC guy, so I'd rather sell the MBP and take the extra money.

Buy yourself something. Like a 3" thick Porterhouse. You gotta get a butcher to cut one for you. Unlikely something like that is on the shelf. Rub some salt and pepper in that thing. Cook for about 8- 10 minutes on each side to sear it. Then let it sit covered for about 12 mintues.

And you have yourself a perfectly cooked medium-rare steak.

    Good looking computers are overrated.

Or you could skip both and get a Thinkpad. The only thing that the MBP has on it is OS X. The specs are there, the build quality is supposedly as good, and you're probably going to pay less for it.

The Adamo doesn't have much except for a pretty face.

God, that sounds delicious right now.

Overrated, yes, but still something I'm after -- if I'm going to have to spend so much time on a computer, I'd like it to be one I enjoy.

This is true. Not a Thinkpad fan, but yeah, it's just a sexy -- if anemic -- notebook.

I'm personally looking at a 15" MBP for next summer. I want something with a discrete card and a solid build.

I'm curious, which tablet PC did you have?

An HP 2730p long ago and a Fujitsu T5010 more recently. Preferred the former on account of build quality / battery life, but hated its display.

The Hp 2730p is a nice model. I'm not particular to the Fujitsu myself.

It seems you have a preference for the MBP. I say keep it.
