    Hey gang,

With the MS deal, you can get the base Adamo for $1125 and with the Dell Signature Event, you can get the XPS Studio 16 with the RBGLED screen for $1149.

I realize these are fairly different machines, but I've having trouble making a decision between the two. Does it come down to style versus functionality? Thin and light versus HD rez and optical drive, etc?

Anyone else gone thru the same decision?

Personally I wouldn't get the SXPS 1640 simply because it will probably be phased out in the upcoming months (being replaced by the SXPS 1647). I have no idea if Dell plans on upgrading the Core 2 Duo in the Adamo with a ULV Arrandale Core i7 in the short term.

Do you think the prices will be significantly higher on the new 1647? I'm fairly maxed out at around a grand, but could probably squeeze in the extra $200 to get the Dell now.

Do you think there will be further discounts as the new models get closer?

The SXPS 1647 is back online so you probably won't see larger discounts on the SXPS 1640 until they do any official clearance sales on it. The SXPS 1647 currently appears at $1,349 with get a Core i5 520M (over C2D P8700), Radeon 4670 (over Radeon 3670), a 3 year warranty (over a 2 year warranty), and a $50 Dell gift card for future use though you downgrade to a 900p WLED monitor.

You can try calling Dell and haggling on the price a bit though I'm not so sure they will go down significantly.

So $1149 gets you the 1640 with P8700, 3670, 2 year warranty and RGBLED.
    $1349 gets you 1647 with i5, 4670, 3 year warranty and 900p WLED.

Tough call. Video card I don't care about, I'm a very light gamer, if at all. RGBLED would be nice, from what I read. So I guess it comes down to wether the CPU and extra year warranty are worth the $200.

Yep. If you plan on buying other Dell products anyways (e.g. ink or accessories after purchase) you might as well factor the gift card into the price (bringing it down to $1,299) as it will save you money. Note though it will arrive a few weeks after you receive your computer and it does expire if you don't use it within a certain number of months. It's you're call though.
