This was my first time ordering Notebook in Dell ( I ordered Inspiron 1501 ). I thought I ordered successfully and I even confirmed. However, Dell sent me an email that says order delayed because they said they were unable to obtain authorization from my card issuer for this purchase. What is wrong with this? Is it only a delay of delivery or whole order will be canceled if I don't contact with my card issuer. The email said this as well.

Please contact your card issuer for assistance by calling the customer-service phone number provided on the back of your card. When the issue is resolved, call us at 1-877-819-3355 with your Order Number for further processing.

    additional things :

    Order Date: 11/24/2007
    Shipping Method: 3-5 Business Days
    Est. Ship Date: 12/3/2007
    Est. Delivery Date: 12/6/2007-12/10/2007
    Carrier: Not Shipped
    Tracking Number: Not Shipped

ps. I ordered in VA, United States and I used Korean credit card.

It means exactly what they said. They couldn't obtain authorization from your card...

and now you have to call your credit card company and clear things up with them. Then once that is done, call back Dell to tell them it has been cleared.

This means that they just put your order on hold (not canceled it) until the issue with the CC company is resolved.

I'm the writer of this thread and I have question for 'adinu.'
Frankly, English is my 2nd language and I don't know exactly
what credit card authorization is. What do I have to say to my
credit card issuer and what do I have to say to the Dell.
I mean could I just say the card authorization problem has been resolved to
Dell and they will deliver the merchandise? I don't get it :( Sorry

I had the same problem, the credit card company had a number wrong on my postal code.

A very small detail but it can stop a CC verification; even though your package would still make it to your home.

A lot of credit card/cash card issuers nowadays will put a hold on the transaction for a multitude of different factors (amount is substantial, relatively new card, etc). This happened to me last week. It turns out Wells Fargo had a block on my card to not buy anything over $1,000, so I had to call them and had the block temporarily removed.

Also happened to my parents ordering a couple Vostros for the holiday season. Their card is relatively new (about a month or so) and there hadn't been a lot of charges on it, and when Visa saw the $1K+ charge, they put a hold on it because they suspected it might be fraud.

All you have to do is call the number on the back of the card and tell them that you are trying to purchase a new portable computer from Dell, Inc. and the estimated amount of the computer. They can usually tell you what the problem is, and have the issue resolved instantly. You can usually call Dell to resume the order right after you hang up with your card company.

    Hope this helps you!

Same thing happened to my parents even tho they've had their cards for 10+ years!

but VISA normally calls and tells you, this time they didn't, but after sorting it out with DELL and getting the machines, they got an apology letter from VISA saying that they had stopped the payment, and never told them!
