I live in Israel, but I'm originally from the US and go back every few months. I'll be back there exactly a month from now, and a week ago I ordered my new Vostro to be delivered to my in-laws house. I figured it would get there around the time I did. Ooops. The delays didn't hit my computer, and it got there this week. When I get the computer I'll be over the 21 day limit (34 days or so from the day it was shipped). I have the WXGA TB screen, not the WXGA+

Is there ANY possible way to find out if I have the dreaded AUO before I get the computer? If I call Dell will they tell me? My in-laws, bless their hearts, are not exactly tech savvy, and turning on a computer is about as far as their skills take them. Should I call Dell in a week or so (within the 21 days) and tell them that I have the AUO screen and have them send me a replacement, that way, either way, I'll be sure to get one without?

IF (REALLY BIG IF) I am able to walk my in-laws through the process of figuring out if it's the AUO, and it is, are there any AUO screens that are any good? They definitely won't be able to tell me if it's grainy or not.

    WHAT SHOULD I DO????????

Heh heh, this is pretty bad.
I think you should call Dell, assuming you have an order number (or something like that) and they might be able to tell you whether it is or not. However, Dell's tech support is infamously bad, and the XPS delays are already confusing enough for them, so good luck.
If there's no way, then by some miracle maybe your in-laws can get the hang of identifying the screen. However, you'll probably spend quite some time on the phone, and it'll probably cost you.

I don't mean this to sound judgmental, but if getting the bad type of screen (and I'll admit the AUO does have its flaws) is deemed a crisis, then you might need to sit back, take a breath, and put things into perspective...

What is the part number for the display on your order details?

You'll be fine, as you have a WXGA. The only ones affected by graininess is the WXGA+ and WSXGA+

Get the service tag (under the laptop) from your inlaws. Go to Dell support, enter your service tag and look at your system configuration. For my Latitude D630, the LCD manufacturer was indicated in the part listing.
