I just noticed that the xps 1530 1499 model just got significantly worse, when for the same price it now has a weaker processor, less ram, and a lower resolution screen. However you can still get a similar price for those upgrades with the summer saving.

However when said summer savings event ends in 5 days I'm afraid that the 1499 deal will still be worse than it used to be, and their will be no summer savings event to get a similar price. Which tempts me to buy a new laptop right now. I need one by mid august for college.

However I am also tempted to wait and hope montevina gets released and is available by then, and that the studio is released and available by then. Do you think those two, will be released early enough for me to get a laptop by mid august, and is the 1499 deal going to go back to what it was last week?

For reference I'm looking to spend about 1700 on a laptop, including 4 year warranty with accidental damage(things happen in college). I can get an addition 12% off via a student discount bringing 1700 down to 1500, which is about what I'm looking to actually spend.

I do not think that you'll be able to get the Studio line before you go back to school. Montevina has been delayed until July 14th so no doubt any notebooks using the technology will be delayed. Intel doesn't expect machines with it to start shipping until the first week of August.

If you need a laptop by mid-August, you best order it soon. Dell is having slow build times due to limited parts. I inquired to several Dell reps, particularly the M1530, and they said certain parts have up to a 30 day build time. Just something to be wary of. Btw:

Studio line will be released before Montevina, so that is another option. I would configure a few laptops and talk to the Dell rep to get a better estimate of delivery - wouldn't want you to order it and get it too late.

Nah, they need the back to school sales. They will launch the Studio line before Montevina as Betanews has leaked, they are Core 2 Duo. They will probably make a slight internal refresh late August, but Dell will definitely want to get the Studio line out prolly by mid July at the latest just so some hype can be revved up before August.

Gah! So should we jump on an M1520 deal or wait for Studio?
