it might be cheaper to buy a vostro 1400 if color does not matter.

The Vostro comes out to more even without the 2GB RAM and 160GB hard drive.

I've always thought warranties were a waste of money. Is a Dell warranty a worthwhile investment?

you can install the ram yourself ($150 for 2GB?? because memory manufacters made so much memory for hte vista rush which really never happened, they are offering steep discounts via rebate, newegg.com sells 1GB DDR677 SO-DIMMS from crucial.com for $25. (so get 2 for dual channel memory))
^^whoops the deal isn't there anymore, but when they get GEIL memory back in stock you can get 1GB for $28

    on warranties:
    EXTENDING WARRANTY via creditcard program

The thing is I'm getting both the 2GB RAM and 160GB hard drive free of charge...no increase in my price. In fact, this laptop comes out to $1160 before tax. I think that's a great price.

If you are a klutz you might want to consider 1 year of accidental coverage, but other then that you are right. Warranties are a waste of money.
