I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to answer.

I plan to use the laptop for surfing the 'Net, writing in Word, editing images in Photoshop, designing in InDesign or Quark, listening to and burning CDs and occasionally watching DVDs.

Would I regret settling for the 32MB video card? Would I regret not getting the UXGA screen?

    Thanks in advance.

You would not need a UXGA screen.

Unless you plan to play any games, you should be just fine with a 32 MB video card.

    Good luck!

Get SXGA+. It's the best size for multi-tasking while still having legible font. I've had a 16.1" UXGA and it was too small to read comfortably. SXGA is perfect for 15" screen. I'm using an XGA LCD monitor right now for my desktop (15") and websites look rather large.

Go SXGA. Don't worry about your vid card since you aren't gaming. 32 megs can handle DVDs fine. If it's shared memory, keep that in mind since it borrows that from your main memory, so you should try to get 512mb. Use the saved money from going SXGA and not UXGA and the vid card and put it toward upgrading to a 7200rpm HD so windows and programs load faster, 512mb of memory, and a faster processor so you can get more life out of your notebook.

    Good luck!

    Hey i've got an 8600

    my specs are here

    http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~lchi325/8600.htm

in my opinion... WUXGA ROX!!!!! its soo awesome!! the images are soo clear, the clarity of images on it are brilliant!

you will always get the "everything is too small" complaint, but you can bump up the dpi to 120 and make everything larger with our lowering the resolutiong.. why sacrifice quality?? for me though, i like the idea fo fitting more on my desktop, more space for etc etc.... so it works well for me...

32 should be fine for movies web surfing...

just if you ever want to game.. you'd have no chance on any half new game nowadays.....
