I plan on either buying a refurbished 1520 from the DeLl Outlet or configuring one for under $1050 USD if better coupons come out next week. Here is why...

Im selling my E1705 to my dad because it no longer has the 7900GS and I need a more portable laptop for college.

From what Ive heard, the Dell Outlet is a great option for those looking on a budget, which I am. Im not too concerned about the warranty, just the initial quality of the notebook. If anyone has purchased a new notebook from the Outlet, please share your thoughts with me.

If I purchase from the Outlet, I wont be able to configure the laptop specially to my specs, so I was wondering if I would be able to maybe swap some parts like my DVD burner and Bluetooth in my current E1705 to my 1520. Does anyone know if this is possible?

    My only other questions are:

How is the quality with the integrated camera? It would be nice to have one to chat with my friends.

Anyone know of any changes coming to the line in the next month or two?

Any general advice on the 1520s?

Im looking to get something along the lines of:

    C2D 2.00ghz +
    2 gigs of mem
    8600GT
    WSXGA+
    6 cell battery
    if possible a 7200RMP HD
    if possible a Camera
    if possible a DVDRW

    Thanks in advance

I don't think you could swap the DVD burner from a 1705 to a 1520. The bluetooth shouldn't be a problem though.

However, You could buy a 1520 with

    C2D @ 2.2ghz T7500
    160GB SATA 5400
    DVDRW
    Dell Wireless N 1505
    1GB RAM
    256MB 8600m GT
    6 Cell Battery
    WSXGA+ Screen
    2.0 MP Camera

    All for $1020 + Tax!

    Follow this link here:

    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=DNPCK33&s=dhs

Configure it to be $1399 or more and use this $425 OFF coupon:

    P6413WWTNQDRL1

There is also a promotion about a $100 or $150 Gift Card with your purchase!

Or here is a better deal

Same configuration except for the Wireless N card (not a big deal really), about $50 more, but you do get A 4 YEAR IN HOME / BY MAIL WARRANTY.

    That's a no brainer really!

The $425 coupon is from Slickdeals.net (Great site)

Don't know how long it will last...

I know you wanted 2 Gigs of RAM, but Dell charges $125 for that, and you can easily do it yourself for $40 or $50 bucks later on.

If you go with the 1st configuration you can choose de Dell Wireless N card but it only comes with a 1 year warranty (mail in)

The second deal will cost you a bit more but you get a 4 year, @ home, and mail in warranty. You don't get the bluetooth (from the 1705), or the Dell card with this one.

If you are not happy with your Intel card, you can always cry to Dell and tell them that it is not compatible with your Network and they might replace it for you with the Wireless N card. Or you can get one on eBay...

Just ordered and it came to $989 before tax.

    Jet Black
    T7500 2.2
1 gig which I will upgrade to 2 or 4 this xmas
    120 gig 7200rpm
    WSXGA+
    DVDRW
    Intel Wireless
    Bluetooth and Camera
    6 cell battery
    Vista Premium

I think I recieved a $150 gift card with Dell which is a great deal in my mind.

Im just hoping a get a great screen and that the 8600GT will be fast enough for me. Dont forget Im coming from a 7900GS and WUXGA screen. All in all Im very excited, special thanks to orion23 for the coupon.
