I just received my first laptop, an Inspiron 9300. I must say, these forums made me wary as I opened the box, but man, this screen has zero sparkle or leakage. I do note, however, that web graphics (text, jpegs on web) are a bit pixelated, while everything else (dvds, etc) has perfect video quality. Also got it a week early.

I was wondering, how do you do a clean windows install on these machines. I purched xp pro, and was expecting the oem windows disk. Do I have to have dell mail me one? The machine is really bogged down with all of Dell's progz, so I want a clean install (not a save state repair). All help is appreciated.

You'll have to ask dell for the OS and Driver CD. They should send it with 2 day shipping.

you can also burn the OS off the 9300 go to start and under programs go to dell acc. and burn it. it will have none of dells preloads on there just the OS.

    hope this helped..

Thanks Gargoyle, I forgot to mention that.

I did try and burn a cd using the dell utility, but when I went back to reinstall, the cd was missing some files. I was able to get XP Pro started, but I eventually had to call Dell and get the CDs.

If you go this route, make sure to go to your c-drive and under the dell folder, copy the drivers folder to a cd or jumpdrive. It will save a lot of hassel later because it takes a few hours to download them from the website.
