I am thinking about getting this card with my m1330.
I will get the laptop from Dell Ireland, so the card will be set to PAL by default.
However, I work in Japan, which is NTSC, so will be using the card there mostly.
So, my question is, will this card work in both PAL and NTSC regions?
Is this a hardware related or driver/software related issue?
Basically, should I get this card or just not bother with it?

I believe all newer TV cards should be able to tune all the different types of TV signals, because you see the settings in software like Country, TV type, etc. that you can select.

i assume the issue if software/decoding based. but just want to be sure so i don't have a lame duck of a card...
Also, does the card allow me to display video running on my laptop onto a tv?
example: if i am watching a DVD or avi.....can i TV-out it to my TV? -
i been researching this product for a while as well. and i remember reading somewhere stating that you actually can hook it up to an external input source. this is one reason i was so intrested in this product but currently only dell offer this product in america.

I recently bought a Dell M1530. I love it. I thought about getting this tuner at the time and I wish I did. I later (after gosh knows how many hours on a couple of phone calls) bought the card through their spare parts department. This was the only way to buy it if you didn't buy it with the laptop. So, I recommend that you get it with the laptop.
I haven't set it up yet so I don't know about the choice of PAL and NTSC. I can let you know that it gives you no additional outputs for TVs. It does have cable, s-video, composite and audio inputs. Your outputs on your m1330 are the HDMI and the VGA outputs. If your tv doesn't take an HDMI input you can get a VGA to s-video adapter.
I will let you know how the card does when I get it set up. -
There are some world tunner for laptop. If it supports different broadcasting system, I am sure they'll mention it in the spec. If it does not, it is not likely to support other system. It is not just software. Avermedia does have an ExpressCard with global TV support. Avermedia HC80. They also have some USB global tuners.

I donm't know if this particular computer has "TV OUT" if it does it will be an S-video out and that goes into an RCA cable which then connects to the input--audio will be separate from headphones out. These are analog outputs. If they are there(IF), then you will be able to select the system--NTSC/PAL and they should then work. The question here is whether this computer has TV OUT(In addition to the other outs). Many computers ahve all thee--VGA HDML and TV(Analog) out. Look for an Svideo output place and check the specs

Can you also run a test and see if the tv tuner lags while playing a gaming console (wii, ps2, whatever is available to you) ? I have an older Kworld usb tv tuner that has brief lag when playing console games. The only tv tuner that I know of that can play without lag is the one for Apple and its USB 2.0 (forgot the name, but it costs about $160)

Could you please confirm that this will allow me to watch Digital TV on a M1330? If so would I need to connect an external ariel?
