Great news. Just got off the phone with a supervisor at the manufacturing department and he informed me that due to the recent problems and customer complaints, AUO screen are NO LONGER BEING USED FOR ANY ORDER! For those of you who don't know, the grainy screen problem seemed to be limited to those with AUO screens. GREAT news indeed!

Kapwn3d!
Good to see that Dell's doing something about it.
I'd still stick with my WXGA screen simply because I like to play games at my LCD's native resolution (hehe ) and with a 8600M GT, WXGA+ is going to be hard to achieve. -
-
yay =P well at last dell is showing some "responsibility". Good Job Dell =D
-
i wonder what happens to all of us that are in the build stage.. will we still get auo screens since they have already started... if so that sucks
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Funny because my S96J has an AUO screen and the screen originally had the "graininess" issue but it was fixed with a VGA BIOS update.
Why couldn't the same be done for Dell's notebooks? -
Could I have one of the last AUO screens? That would suck. -
But, for those that's going to do a lot of image editing, the higher resolution screen is obviously going to be a must-have... Although I'm pretty sure it's not going to work out too great on a 15.4'' screen since you'll probably be squinting just to see a word most of the time .
I think 1440 x 900 is a good compromise if you do both (which I do--but I'm still sticking with my WXGA ). -
-
i better not get another stinking auo... after 2 thats enough for me,
btw you may be waiting for that t7300.. according to a guy i know at intel they are basically depleted and he does not believe they will be shipping many more.. one of my employees got bumped back nearly 3 weeks due to the proccessor -
man you guys are making me question my purchase now.. i ordered the wsxga+ and you are all saying i cant play games on it?? i dont do much gaming but i di like to play sometimes.. what should i do i got it as a free upgrade so i hate top give it up
-
Then again, if you are going to be using graphic workshops and things like photoshop a lot and need to have many applications opened at once, 1680 would be good. -
oh man that really sucks.. i like a really bright screen.. yeah i dont game a lot but when i want to i want the option to be there. i just dont want to cancel again then wait again besides id loose near 450$ plus the original 325 coupon off the price .. the escalations rep said he can not offer me the discounts on any further purchase so if i cancel and reorder id loose all the added discounts.. man i so pissed.. i have all the worst luck
-
so does this mean that since i'm still in preproduction for my 1520 wxga+ screen, that it probably wont have auo? are they getting rid of the ones they still have or are they completely halting them?
woops nvm just saw someones post saying they wont ship with auo, hooray =) -
my reorder does not have the AUO Screen!
-
great news, thanks for the update.
-
nizzy how do you know what you got in your replacement?? and damn crap if i would have known this before i would not have went to the wsxga screen... sucks.. i didnt really want it but i knew it was the only one at the time dell and auo both said was not being used on the dell line... damn damn

i ordered on the 25th i better not get a stinking auo screen
-
OK Guys. Maybe I am nuts. But I looked anda see that I got the AUO screen (1440) on my 1520 and yes there is a bit of leakage at the bottom, no different really than my last 2 Toshibas and I do not see any graininess or interference on the screen. It is in native 1440 mode and crystal clear. So do not freak out until you get the screens and see if you actually have a problem. I am a graphics person and not a hardcore gamer and will keep you all updated in case I come across unusual problems.
Theres my 2 cents! -
Thanks im interested! all im afraid of is downgrading my screen when i thought i was upgrading it!
-
I wonder if they've stopped using AUO screens in Canada too, or is this just the USA...
-
My SEC is grainy....
-
Hmm I am about to order a 1440x900 screen and hope I just dont get a grainy one.... A little light leakage I actually wont mind though....
-
The light leakage is only noticeable to me during boot when the screen is black.. On a screen like this, I dont even see it.
-
Anyone thing Dell is just telling them what they want to hear? That does seem to be Dells MO, so don't get too excited. I am sure who this person talked to doesn't even know what he is talking about he just wanted to get back to eating his curry or something.
-
thats a very good possibility, btw i hope i dont get the last auo screen, my notebook was shiped on the 31 -
a friend who works in a dell store or kiosk (not in my area but ive known him for a while) said he has not been told this in fact after speaking with him today he was told auo is one of the main suppliers now for dell.. i know for a fact he would not lie to me unless dell is lying to him... so this is def hard to say.....for sure i mean
-
Yup - as seen as AUO are one of the biggest suppliers in the world I can't really see Dell being able to drop them from the suppliers list.
-
do you guys know if the 1440 x 900 screen is causing any delays still? i remember someone saying that it was the one in highest demand before
-
My Latitude D630 was shipped on 8/31 and it has the AUO panel, according to the service tag number. I haven't unboxed it yet, so not sure how it looks. Guess we'll find out later tonight.

yeah i had another guy that works with my freind and a dell "Store" and he said they are still going to be using auo as well this is after he said he called in to talk to his "rep" about the problem... so i guess none of us can really be sure... i hope they can auo i cant stand their screens personally
AUO screens no longer being used!
