    Hey..
For those with AUO screens, please post if yours is/was GRAINY or you have no problems with it... (i guess post your specs too just to differentiate the 14'' and 15'', etc).

(anyone with an AUO on their 1420 that was good?)

    BYE!

Mine is perfect. Dell Vostro 1500. After I calibrated with my Spyder 2, it's even better.

Have you purchased a laptop yet? Why do you want to know if it's grainy.... Did you get an AUO screen? does it look grainy?

If you have not even gotten a laptop yet and are already freaking out about getting a grainy screen then there is a very high chance that you suffer from Grainihypochondria.

    Here are some remedies:

If you have not gotten your laptop, STOP FREAKING OUT!

If you got your laptop and you like the screen, STOP FREAKING OUT

If you got your laptop and you don't like the screen, STOP FREAKING OUT and call dell to get replacement or exchange......

i think his signature says it all :p

anyway, i have an LPL000. though it is non-grainy, I still notice light bleed at the bottom of the screen. not sure if I want to replace, because everything else is good. I think light bleed is better than grainy! what do you guys say?

And I think every screen type has some problem or the other. it just your luck with the statistics.

I originally had an AUO 14" 1440x900 glossy panel which did indeed have more pronounced lcd sparkle as well as minor light bleed at the bottom. I didn't mind it too much but I did request a replacement.

The replacement is a SEC and there is no graininess, although the light bleed is a little worse it isn't a big issue.

I checked out an HP Core 2 Duo at Compusa. It had a beautiful glossy 1280x800 screen. When I checked in the Device Manager, it was on AUO.

I think most AUO screen are good, but some are bad. Most people posting here have the bad ones... I think.

The key here is the HP uses a wxga not wxga+. I think the reason HP does not offer the 1440X900 on their 14/15 systems is that there is a known issue with graininess/sparkle etc.. with wxga+ panel makers on those size screens. The exception is the wxga+ on 17 inch screens. And even HP offers that option. I agree, HP seems to be very consistent in putting out nice looking LCD's. They don't have the luck of the draw issues that dell has. But then again, they don't offer the higher resolutions that dell does.
