When I try to price a Studio 14 on the Dell.com website, I get the following error when I match the, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 512MB, with an i7 processor (i.e. i7-720QM).

"The Video Card is not compatible with the Quad Core Processor selected, please update one of the selections."

I've tried google-ing this but nothing has turned up. Can anyone please explain?

(I'm getting a replacement laptop with the 4530 and an i7 and, despite Dell's own disclaimer, they're telling me not to worry.)

    Thanks!

I'm not getting any mismatch, the 4530 is the only option available?

or, Dell has chosen to not make a mobo/graphics combination that you want.

YES there is a problem...I am using the same spec'd laptop as a replacement for my xps m1330 and I am getting random freezes. I am talking to Dell Tech Support and they are looking into it. I have also found forums stating that they have discontinued it because Dell may have found hardware compatibility issues between the two. I get these random freezes like 4 times a day. These freezes causes the cursor to not budge, nor ctrl alt del to function. The only way to fix this issue is to do a hard reset. I suggest you call dell and demand a different replacement.

    Currently I have:
    Studio 1457
    Core i7 720QM
    HD 4530 512MB
    4GB 1333MHz RAM
    Dell Wireless 1520 minicard
    500GB 7200RPM HDD

    Original Specs:
    XPS m1330
    Core 2 Duo T7500
    3GB RAM
    Nvidia 8400M GS
    160GB 7200RPM HDD

You should worry if your getting the same combination (i7-720QM with HD 4530 512MB)

I have the same specs and issue as mathnerd88 if not worse (my laptop just shuts down 5 minutes playing any 3D games CoD, BField..) will only wanna turn on after a few minutes of external cooling) and currently talking to Dell.

I've raised them that their own site is flagging the combination incompatible. Try and open a dell website, choose studio 14 with the lowest specs, then immediately change the processor from i3 to i7-720QM without changing the graphics card. It will give an error below:

"The Video Card is not compatible with the Quad Core Processor selected, please update one of the selections."

I've immediately requested for a compatible graphic card at no charge. They agreed to change the whole unit. (That remains to be seen). I'll update you guys once I receive it in 2 business weeks from today as they promised.

Hi, sorry for the thread bump, but I was wondering how things worked out with Dell for any of you?

I also got the i7 with 4530 graphics card only to see them remove the option from their website a few days later. Recently when playing games I noticed the computer gets very hot near the vent. We had a relatively warm day and my computer overheated several times, even once when on a colling pad. Now on checking the temperatures I find my graphics card heats up to 90 degrees within a few minutes of gameplay- I don't think this should be normal. I talked to Dell about it, but they refused to acknowledge any issue with the GPU + CPU combination. They're sending a technician to my place to replace the fan heatsink and motherboard as well.

I doubt that this will make any difference, but suspect the temperature issue is a problem with all computers of this model.
There's a lengthy thread about problems with the studio 1557, http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...ell-studio-1557-i7-overheating-issues-14.html which I consider to be essentially the same as the 1447, just in a bigger shell with a slightly higher clocked GPU. I'm pretty sure that the engineers at Dell are aware of the issues and that the 1448 and 1558 models are an attempt to address our overheating issues by providing a cooler graphics card and beefier fan - which people now complain about being too loud.

Did your replacement units still have the issue or were you successful in getting Dell to give you a different replacement model?
