Where are you located as this usually helps pinpoint what you are seeing......Are you talking about the ATI 5470?...Looks like you may be in Canada? I see it listed as the model 545v on the Canadian website....

Not sure on the screen though..

    The HD 545v is a $100 option and the HD 5470 is a $200 option (dell.ca). I'm assuming the 545v is the HD 5450.

I just ordered a Studio 15 myself (US customer), and the build included the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570, but I noticed today while checking on the build status that it's no longer lsited as the HD 4570, but as the HD 545v. Can't find any information on what the 545v is, though!

    From my invoice:
    -----------------------
    -- Video Card --
    -- ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570, 512MB
    -- [330-6729]
    -----------------------

    On the current build-status website:
    1 330-6729 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 545v

Seems to be the same part number, so I'm really curious about what hardware I'm actually going to be receiving...

Seems like the 4570 option has been replaced with the 545v and an optional upgrade to the 5470 (1GB) has been added. Thanks, Dell, for letting me know about that one...

Still don't know what a 545v is, let alone what the specs are...

If it is the same part number it must be the same part. It's only a web error.

The 5450 would perform the same as the 4570 (same speeds isnt it?) but it has dx 11 support and it is 40nm, so probably less heat.

    Dell PN: 330-6729

The original order showed a 4570 though.

It looks like Dell replaced the 4500 series with the new ATI 5400 series, and yes, the 5450 is functionally equivalent to the 4570, so if this is what happened, I can't really say it's a bad deal.

But "545v" isn't nearly as informational as, say, "5450 512mb" and at the end of the day, I just want to know what I paid for. I knew what I bought when I ordered the 4570, but now I don't know what I've paid for ... that annoys me.

The 5450 is the replacement for the 4570...
New features to the chipset are:
    1. DX11 (vs 10.1
    2. migration from 55nm to 40nm process (11watt TDP down from 13watt) (less heat, less power = better battery life)
    3. Shader 5.0 (vs 4.1)
    4. Clock speed....reference model is 5mhz lower than the reference 4570
    5. OpenGL 3.2 (vs 3.1)
    6. Eyefinity support

Dell is suppose to call me back within the hour as to the factor.

It's still a 64-bit bus which limits it to DDR3 still.

notebookcheck says the 5470 can use ddr2, ddr3 or gddr5.

it would be awesome if it was the gddr5, but i kind of doubt it

I'll be the guinea pig on this one. I ordered my laptop and it was delayed a few days likely because of the part transition.

At any rate, my Studio 15 with the 545v arrives tomorrow, I'll be sure to run some benchmarks and gather any info I can on it and post a reply by Thursday.

I figure worst case it turns out numbers noticeably worse than the 4570 I have grounds to return the unit, as that was what I selected when I originally ordered a couple of weeks ago.

I'm very curious what you will receive.

    Don't worry about the 4570: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5450.23819.0.html

It is 40 NM vs 55 NM and the performance looks equal. So it will be less hot with the same performance, you actually should be happy with the change! I'm wondering why Dell doensn't update the fact sheet though. (In Holland i can't see any 5450) I want this laptop too, but im waiting for them to exit the 'old' 4570....

I just chatted with a Dell sales rep who was able to confirm that the 545v is, indeed, a 512mb 5450. Now, to see how they perform... ;)

Im chatting with them also, and here they just don't know anything...Come on, I only want it with at least the 5450, why can't they just tell me what I will get? They just don't understand my question, even when i show them this topic.

Zendax; I don't know what time it is in your country, but how many hours will it be before you can tell us which card you have?

So, DXDIAG says I have a 4570, which is what I originally ordered, so I shouldn't be surprised, but the name change is confusing.

Perhaps they're going to start shipping PCs with the 5450 and the change after ordering was a mistake?

On your studio 15 was it originally a 4570 and then changed on the order status to a 545v? Also on your packing list was it the 545v or the 4570?

    Here's the full GPU-Z report. Standard 4570 with 512MB GDDR3 memory
    4570.gif

I ordered the computer with the 4570, but when checking the status a few days later, it changed to the 545v.

The packing slip, however, speaks truth. It lists the 4570. I'm guessing dell is switching to the 545v, but those who ordered the 4570 are getting the 4570. The change online is simply an error due to using the same part number, which was a bit premature.

Just checked the order status tonight and it's been adjusted back to the 4570.

Oh, in case anyone wants to cancel you need to call support and spend 1/2 hour or so to cancel it if you really want the 5450 instead of the 4570.

Yeah, mine flipped back to the 4570 as well. Don't think it's worth it to cancel the order so I can get the 5450 though...at least, not for me. I just want the darn thing shipped! ;)
