Seeing how they are the same laptop, uh yeah.

Seeing as how you asked such a dumb question, I doubt you even know how to replace the GPU.

And you obviously do. Hope you are proficient with a soldering iron.

It might be the same motherboard and layout, just with a 4XXX chip instead of 3XXX but I'd guess you will still have to swop motherboards. Even discrete graphics are soldered on to the motherboard with the Studio 15XX.

I'm guessing the 4570 has more performance than the 8600gt?

plasma, the 1555 is NOT the 1537 (different size screen should be a big clue) so its not a dumb question first of all. Second, you probably know just as much about replacing a GPU, as most are soldered onto the motherboard. Please don't try to make others look like an idiot if you yourself don't know much about the topic.

actually yeah from what ive been able to dig up this should be very close to a DDR2 8600gt that is phenomenal for a low end card!

would have liked it to be a little more powerful than the 8600GT, but if i was ready to settle for an HD3450 with the current Dell Studio 15, this is a nice refresh. i am curious to see what new designs they will have out. if they look anything like the limited edition edge to edge black scheme, i will definately be interested. i just hope the quality gets better!

here in India, www.dell.co.in you already have the option of 4570 256MB and 512MB graphics in studio 15. dell sxps 16 is still offered only with 3670.. though

It should be nicer overall there is also a subwoofer on this i think this may get an XPS esque treatment and redo almost everything.

The 4570 is still good though it is also phenomenal for a "low end" card then we dont even know how far this thing can overclock it just makes me even more interested :D

According to NotebookCheck (which should be taken with a grain of salt), the 4570 is actually better than the 3670. That leaves the M1730 for the XPS range, a severly outdated machine.

I don't think Dell intend the StudioXPS range to be the gaming line up, nor the most powerful, but the luxurious one, with the leather and whatnot. The gap between Studio and XPS is blurring, especially now the 15 has a very similar design to the SXPS 16

I wonder if the Studio 17 will get a 4650...

I am disappointed, the topic sounds like Studio XPS are going to have 4xxx but it turns out to be just the new Studio 15 which already had a topic.

It has 16:9 and subwoofer so it should be a redesign to fit the new card in, meaning nothing to do with Studio XPS having new card :/

    I really want a 46xx+ on a Studio XPS 16.

Which part in NotebookCheck suggests that 4570 is better than 3670?

No benchmark for 4570, and 3670 has better Pipelines and Memory Bus Width, I wonder if the tech make up for that.

Btw, what vRAM the 3670 in SXPS 16 uses?

Soooo... how long do you think it will be untill these new options are available in Canada. I had just placed an order for a studio 17 and when I saw this info I cancelled it. These enhancements address all the things I felt were short-commings... not huge short-commings, but things that I felt would make the Studio "perfect" for for the budget range I live in.

Im almost willing to put money the fact it hasn't already gone into the new XPS 13/16 is because of the design/faults with the machine - and we will see some changes not to far around the corner - with options for this card in the XPS 13/16 also.

Why else would they put a new card into an older model...

Cancel the order only if gaming is important to you. Not that you can't do some light gaming with the 3670, but according to ATI/AMD (taken with a grain of salt of course), the performance of the 4670 will be almost double compared to the performance of the 3670. That should make a barely playable game with the 3670 very playable/nicer-looking with the 4670. It's also quite possible that measures will be taken by that time to reduce heat output or at least improve cooling.

I read the Studio XPS owner's thread from beginning to end, and a (really picky) guy named puremind tried to calibrate his screen. He says there's a green tint to the grey's that he can't get rid of. Here's a link to his calibration results:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=345445&page=125

Now, most people are just raving about the RGBLED screen. But I figure, if I'm going to play Blu-Ray movies on this laptop, I want the colors right, and if the colors aren't right, why get a Blu-Ray built in? It looks like the WLED screen can be calibrated to produce accurate colors. I want 1600x900 though, on a 17" laptop.

OMG! I've just got my studio XPS 16 monday! All I wanted was an ATI 4xxx in it!!! What should I do now?
I've got some questions now :
If dell would actually release an upgrade with those Ati 4xxxx, can we replace the 4xxx with the old 3670 one? Or are we stucked with the 3670 forever? In this case, should I send back this beautiful laptop? :(
I was so happy 'til now!
    Thanks!

Bonoboblues: I suggest you to keep your notebook.
If you are problem free, I don't see real reason to return it.
Very often Dell has problems/issues with the notebooks (especially new notebooks). So you are lucky dog if your computer works perfect from the begging.
Think about it, and don't play too much with your luck

OK here is a puzzle. I have decided to go ahead and buy a Studio XPS 16. When I choose the usual build-to-order option, I can get a very nice laptop with 256 DB SSD etc etc for $2700 or so. However, Dell is now running a special where you can choose a Dell Mini 9 for $99!! Ho ho says me, the wifey will take one of these and like it! The Dell Mini 9 special also allows me to choose and customize a Studio XPS 16. But THIS customization path also allows me to choose an ATI 4850!! The downside is, I also have to choose an external monitor and keyboard. ?? Also, I can't choose an SSD or an Intel Wi-Fi card, but I can get a 1TB dual HDD setup in raid 0! The best part is, this config is also roughly $2700. Which one should I choose? The one shown below is configuration #2, which has the better GPU but the Dell Wi-Fi.

Are you sure you aren't talking about the desktop studio xps? As for releasing new graphics on the customisation menu there is a tab for graphics but there is only one option. All the compulsory things like the keyboard go on the righ hand side which leads me to believe that dell is planning on adding another option to the graphics tab

After all other notebook manufacturers update their current lineup. Nowadays Dell is the slowest of them all to upgrade to new notebook components.
