Apologizing in advance for the fact that not many forum members can use AAFES, but they have cut the price on the entry-level 1710's. These have the 7900 GS and 1-Gb of RAM. They did the same thing around this time last year & thats when I bought my M170. Kinda thought they would do this since Santa Rosa is due out in late April/May.

    I second that question.

Ohhh is it a military discount store similar to on base grocery stores?

Basically, the AAFES BX/PX is similar to a Walmart, Target, Kmart, etc. It's not a discount store.

Military members can shop AAFES Online and order Dell products through a special Dell-Military site. Prices are a little better, plus there's no tax and free shipping. You also get to talk to the American Dell support center instead of getting routed through India.

Fools and their money are soon parted, I guess. I ordered the M1710 with the base graphics and a Dell XPS backpack - total came out to $1648. I sold my XPS M170 last month for $1200 - it was a great system but the LCD was just too dim. Per everything I've seen, the 1710's and 1705's have a brighter display - well, at least I certainly hope so anyway! The 7900 GS will run everything I play (SWAT 4, Raven Shield and Max Payne 2) just fine. I'll keep this one through my next deployment (SEP - FEB 08) & hopefully upgrade it to the Santa Rosa XPS next year.
