So my new computer is fine in every way except when at rest the hard drive goes tap.....tap....taptap.............tap...tap

    It sounds just like some dense old lady typing a letter r e a l l y s l o w l e y. It's driving me NUTS!

Anyone else got the problem and know how to solve it?

    Cheers
    Champs

what is your hard drive brand, model and size? certain models do exhibit loud clicking noise. reason:unknown at the moment, except the head is parking for no particular reason

It is vista indexing the drive. It will stop soon. Just leave it on over night :)

i dont think it's vista indexing. the clicking noise i mentioned is not at all read/write noise. it happens randomly, maybe 30-40 min once, and it is loud! so loud that it sounds like you are tapping your keyboard key really hard. i've experienced this issue with samsung HM320JI hard drive. if you do a quick search, there are others facing this issue too. not sure if the drive is defective or not, because performance is not affected when the clicking noise happens. however, any loud mechanical noise coming from hard drive is not a good news.

Did you try going into the BIOS and changing the HDD performance setting?

I turned of Vista Indexing, because I hated the HD light going 24/7, but I heard no clicking noise. Then again, this isn't the same model....
