Listed as urgent on the dell drivers site for the e1505.

    Possibly Merom?

I don't think that it is an update for Merom, but I could be wrong. I don't think they would label it urgent since 99% of the users do not have merom in their systems yet. It might be something for core duo though.

I was thinkin that dell released a new bios that would be compatible with merom, so if people pick it as an option when building their computer in the future, they wouldn't encounter problems. When I saw "newer version of intel processor" I immediately thought merom. I don't know of any other current core duo refresh, but I too could be wrong. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Maybe it's an update for T2X50 series(533MHZ FSB).

It might be for Merom. My thinking about it is that it doesn't make sense to release an update before they even start offering merom, but then again, Dell is strange sometimes so who knows.

If i could give a guess, it sure looks like it's possibly for Merom.

Agreed with Amber, Dell has done strange things.

ie. listing computer drivers a for computer thats not even out for a few days, and then the Apple OSX Drivers...

ANY Dell update that is about the BIOS or strong system driver, they will ALWAYS label it "Urgent" since if you call tech support, they will ask if you upgraded to the newest version, if you say no.. no matter how unrelated it is, they will stop their troubleshooting with you till you do it.

So I dont think its much, could be tweaks or future support for Intel Processors.

Its a possibility that A06 might have been causing stability problems, and they withdrew it for further testing. We'll have to wait and see.

Anyone out there managed to upgrade to A06? Has there been any difference in stability?

I installed it a couple of days ago. No problems that I have seen so far. I do have some issues with Outlook express from time to time. It seems to hang up and I need to close it with control , alt delete. A bit of a bother but not a major issue.

It is distrubing to find that it has been withdrawn. Any way someone can get to Dell and find out the story. Should we be going back to ao4.

I dled it immediately, haven't experienced any problems at all. Maybe dell thought it was too early for merom? (if it even is for merom...)

Well, I installed the A05 BIOS (going from A03) and since that time, my system runs much warmer than before and the fan runs much more often than before. There is also a bit of a vibration in the area where my hands rest when typing that wasn't there before the BIOS update.

Unfortunaetly, I can only find the A04 on the website and that didn't change anything either.

My E1505 came installed with A04, I downloaded A05 when I saw it on the Dell download page and then A06. The last didn't appear to cause any problems but during a chat session about a hour ago with Dell they had me flash A05 again. I'm not sure the tech even knew about A06!

None of them seemed to make a difference.

I downloaded the A06 too.. was easy.. .just goto the AO5 url, and manually rename it from AO5.exe to AO6.exe or whatever, and it will download, but not do anything.

Sorry to resurrect this ancient thread....

But is there some reason the download for this particular BIOS (which happens to be the one that came with my laptop 8 months ago) is a seemingly dead file? (2 kb, as opposed to ~800kb for all other BIOS updates)

    The direct link....
    http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/MM061A06.EXE
    http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/MM061A12.EXE

Is there a problem with the update, like there seemingly is/was with A013? (Read that elsewhere, here, I think)

(I was going to D/L it for backup)

    Thanks,
    ~Gert
