    Im thinking about getting a Dell Latitude C810 ..at a used laptop site..It would cost me about 500.00

    Is this a good deal?

    i would say not a good deal.

    the architecture is waaaaay outdated. you could find current tech notebooks for about 500, maybe a little bit more.

    i would recommend against it; espcially since you're not buying it from dell's outlet where you at least get a warranty and some support.

    follow up:

    since you commented that you don't know much about notebooks, i would recommend hitting a barnes/noble or similar and browsing the magazine stand. grab as many "notebook" and related magazines and flip thru them to get sense for what you should be looking for; i.e., processor type, how much RAM, type and size of screen, etc.

    take the time to educate yourself so that you can make an informed purchase. a notebook is a tool and if you get the wrong tool for the job, you will be unhappy.

    also, there is a sticky/FAQ in the Hardware forum that, if you fill it out, will get you some great suggestions

    I'd check out that lifetime limited warranty. 90 days is more likely on a refurbed notebooks.
