    Hey guys,

I'm currently waiting for my M1530 to be built/shipping/etc. and the first thing I'm going to do is do a clean install of the 64-bit version of Vista that I got.

I know every Vista CD contains every version of Vista, but if my XPS can only come with the 32-bit version from the factory, can I access the same version of Vista that I bought only in the 64-bit version? Bascially, I got Vista Home Premium 32-bit ... can I install Vista Home Premium 64-bit right off the disk with my registration code? (I know about updating drivers and such, don't worry).

Now all I have to do is wait TWO FRIGGIN' MONTHS for my XPS to ship. That's right. Ordered: 5/8/08. Expected Ship Date: 6/23/08. Guess I shouldn't have gotten the Sound Blaster Xtreme card.

Edit: I just looked at my order status and the actual laptop is supposed to ship on 6/9/08 and the ship date for the LoJack and Xtreme sound card is supposed to ship on 6/23/08. Does that mean that I'll get my laptop separate form the sound card, or will they not ship the laptop until the sound card gets in?

I hope they ship me the laptop when it's ready and not wait to the ding-dang sound card!

    Thanks for the help,
    ~J

Thanks stevie. I understand HOW to get Vista 64 running, I'm just asking that--since I'm doing a clean install anyway--will Vista 64 be on the install disk that I get or will I have to go buy it?

    Thanks,
    ~J

All of Vista 64-bit will come on a separate DVD. I'm not sure whether Dell will ship both DVDs since I purchased mine with XP. You should contact them and ask. Or maybe someone with experience can tell you.

If you've already got the x64 vista installation disc, by all means use it. Calling Dell won't get you anything, they won't ship you an additional DVD of the 64bit OS (which is pretty lame imho, considering most of the pc's they are selling are 64-bit compatible).

And yes, the same key works.
