Last time I got my dell desktop it used to run super fast. After I formatted it ran alot slower than when I now got it.
Does dell 'optimize' their systems before shipping it out?
I've been reading about alot of junk that comes with notebooks(I have a 700m coming in) and am debating weather to do a full format and install XP pro Sp2 on it.

It should run faster after doing a fresh install. Dell puts a lot of junk on there.

Yes, a format is reccomended especially on Dell Computers. Just doing a add/remove file is way different, it still just leave registry keys behind, and when you do a full reformat, it cleans all of that out.

well I'm not sure whether this is relevant, but before formatting I got a 1:40 Super Pi but now I have done an XP clean install I get about 4:00?
Seems odd, I wonder if I'm totally missing something .. .. -
Is that plugged or unplugged. Perhaps you are on conserve battery now and before you were running at full speed.
-
Its plugged oddly enough. . . .on always on in power options
-
Plugged or not should not make such a big difference anyway. Maybe it's a driver thing or maybe its your Windows CD?
-
That's what I was talking about as well.
Even this desktop I'm using (2.4ghz, 512mb RDram) used to run kickass when I just got it, and after I formatted and reinstalled windows the performance dropped alot.
I am afraid it's going to happen with the laptop . -
You need to get the CD from Dell and experiment with the 2 CDs...
512 RD Ram?! Sell those and buy a Sager! -
can you please anybody tells me how do I format my pc.
I have the OS cd Rom...No cd recoveries...
Thanks for your attention -

That's a guide that I created that goes step by step to reformatting. If you have a second computer, I suggest to have it on there while you are reformatting. If you don't, you might want to print it out.
If you have questions, feel free to ask.
