    hi there!!

im planning on buying a new xps m1330.... however i have got a big big problem:

i have always been a gamer, but now, i have changed and need a laptop for working unplugged lots of hours with Photoshop and Video Editing software.

    my options are:

Xps M1330 with intel x3000 OR Xps M1330 with nVidia 8400gs.

    my questions:

    - Is there much battery duration difference between the intel and the nvidia?

    - How is the intel integrated chip for playing PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2008 (newest WINNING ELEVEN)

    - Does PHOTOSHOP or PINNACLE require a good graphics card?

Video editing may benefit from better GPU, Photoshop - not likely. You will probably get better support (in terms of obtaining information, tips, drivers, etc.) for a dedicated GPU (8400 GS or whatever) than any integrated one, so I'd go with a dedicated one. Don't know about their power consumption, sorry.

Second the dedicated; however, I have heard that the Intel chip is easier on the battery.

    1) You'll probably get 30-40 minutes more battery life.
    2)Not good.
    3) Not neccesarily.

I really don't think you will get 30-40 minutes more. Maybe 10-15 at most. The 8400 is not very power hungry.

Remember that battery life is for just a few months- ALL these laptop batteries go flat after like 9 months unless you repack them yourself, so battery life really is a MARKETING BS PLOY... you'll be plugged in with everyone else in a few months, do don't buy based on battery life!

Photoshop needs nothing- it will run on ancient rigs with matrox cards or old
S3 video cards... video editing is a little different- stick with someone that isn't integrated, but that's where your batteries drain.

If you're set on unplugged life, look into the pentium 4 series and chipsets... pentium M's rocked in battery conservation as I recall- they actually DID give you like 4 hours typing, or 3 hours dinking with photoshop- but remember all kinds of things offset- you get a fast HD and your battery time is out the window: get a nice screen and the same thing; listen to MP3's and ditto, sign in to check your email, again drained...spin up CD's and DVD's...

We're talking about 9 months tops batter differences before those lithium cells need help, and about $300 difference between models. If you buy old, you'll spend that money on components like new battery or repacking it, or a DVD burner...

What IS the requirements of EV pro soccer 2008?

I've had my laptop for over 4 and a 1/2 years now...it's a dell 600m, and I drain the battery at least twice per day every day of the week. I got 2 batteries with the notebook, and I bought one. I still get 3Hours of battery life from my batteries....

I remember peeps doing tests with the SZ and its hybrix gfx to see how much different the bettery performance is with the 8400M GS and the intel. There was only about 20 minutes extra battery with the integrated Intel gfx over the NVIDIA...not 30-40 mins!
