I have a studio 1737. I believe it came with Vista Home 64 bit. I loaded Windows 7 Ultimate 86x and apparently it works fine.
Is my system a 64 bit system or a 32 bit sys as it now shows? Did I screw up my laptop? I appologize for being a novice, but with other os 7 trys it gave me an error meassage that I could not load a 32 bit os on a 64 bit machine. I now wanted to go to dells web site and upgrade my drivers.
This creates a further problem because dell does not show a win7 for 32 bit. Should I reload WIN 7 64 bit OS? Signed confused

your laptop suupports both 32 bit and 64 bit systems, but if you using more than 4 GB of memory you do require a x64 bit OS.

Best to simply restore Windows 7 64-bit to save you the trouble of finding drivers.

If I load WIn 7 64 bit over it will I lose all files?

Since you have a 64 bit OS already (Home Premium) you can convert Ultimate to x64 as well. The key will work with both, but can only use one or the other per license.
I was able to take my x64 Home Premium disk to use to convert my x86 Windows Ultimate. It's fairly straight forward, but since you are a novice, you may want someone to give you a hand. Then, do a clean install of Ultimate x64. Read through the links below and choose which one makes the most sense to you and set aside some time.
