I newly got Dell Inspiron E 1505 with Core Duo 1.66 T2300 and 1G RAM.

    1. When I got to My Computer-> Properties, I see the processor as "Genuine Intel Processor T2300, 1.66 GHz but do not see Core Duo". Is this valid? Or should I expect Core Duo there? How would I know if I really got Core Duo?

    2. I ordered for 1G RAM Shared Dual Channel 2 DIMM. What I got was 512 MB modules in two slots. But, my expectation was to get 1G in one slot with another slot free, so that I could extend it in future. My questions here is: is this correct if I got 512*2 rather than one 1G? And, which is better for performance? And, which one is more expensive, in general?

    3. How to check the maximum write speed of my DVD drive?

    Try CPU-Z.
Dual channel memory does offer a slight performance adavantage. If you ordered it with two DIMMs you do not have an open slot.
Most likely the max speed is 8x for DVDs and 24x for CDs.

T2300 is the core duo model, T1300 is the core solo. also, you should see two clock speeds there, one may be lower than the other if your settings are set to Portable / laptop.

    1. CPU-Z is a good utility. If you want something more official, then Intel has a processor identification utility on their website which should also give the same details as CPU-Z.

    2. Well, you orderd 2 DIMM's - meaning 2 sticks of RAM, so they sent you 2X512MB RAM. Dual channel is a also a big giveaway that you"ll receive 2 sticks. Eegarding whether 2 is better than 1, in your case it is since if you pair 2 identical sticks of RAM it effectively double the available bandwidth. This is useful, but the advantages are pretty much limited

    3. Your DVD burning software should be able(in most cases I believe) to give you the specifications on the burning speeds.
