I had two placed orders for an XPS, but due to coupon codes I didnt get them. I decided to go with the 9300 and save a few bucks.
I got it tonight (3/16/05) and not sure if im going to return it. Most of you will tell me to return it, but the hassle and then being with out it till they build a new one and send it out.
-Sparkle on screen. Its almost like the HP TC1000/TC1100, but not as bad.
-Light leaking from bottom.
-Dark spot near clock.
-High pitch sound comming from graphics card when I play SW Battlefront. (need to test more on this because it doesnt seem to do it with doom 3).
If anything good is to say about it, its that it can play Doom 3 and SW Battlefront very well.
[htm]http://www.olanin.net/forforum/blackspotonscreen.JPG[/htm] - I should have took with it in windows, it shows up alot more.

Forgot to add
-DVD is loose when its open and goes up/down/back/forward. It plays them fine, but it seems it should be more in place. Im talking about the arm that extends out to place the disc on. -
That light leak is pretty horrible there, which screen type do you have? I can't even see the "black spot" you refer to, I assume you mean a dead pixel. One dead pixel isn't too bad and actually within what Dell guarantees (can have up to three before return is accepted by their standard).

Just out of curiosity, did you wait a few hours before you powered up your notebook after receiving it in the mail?
Couldn't the light leakage you are seeing be because the lcd is still cold, and the frame needs to warm up and expand a little?
If not, it would take only a few minutes to throw a little strip of adhesive foam inside the lcd frame.
Everyone apparently has the dark spots in their bottom corners (I'd say you were lucky if you only have it in one corner).

The UXGA screen on the 9300 I just received had over 200 dead (black) pixels concentrated in mid left section. It was clearly a manufacturing defect and I was very suprised to receive such a defective screen on a new computer (Isn't the screen tested and doesn't anybody look at the it before it ships?) When I called technical support they told me that 5 dead pixels was normal for this screen. I am sending it back for repairs. One nice thing about the screen is that the whites are much whiter than the whites on my 8600 which seem yellowish when placed next to the 9300 and the screen is overall a lot brighter.

200!!!???
Wow. -
probably a defect when the sandwhiched the display materials together.
A few problems with my 9300...
