When I close the lid the screen stays on. Is it supposed to do that? Also, sometimes when I close it it turns off but won't turn back on when I open it. Is that a hardware or software problem?

My computer also likes to turn off the bluetooth radio for no apparrent reason. Is there a bluetooth utility or something I don't have installed? It would be nice to control it independently of the wi-fi.

Some people over at Notebook Forums.com were reporting the same problem with the screen issue. They are closing and opening the lid and the screen isn't coming back on. Most seem to think it's a software/driver issue but personally I have no idea. My M1210 won't be here until next weekend at the earliest. :(

As far as bluetooth, I can't help you there. I have a USB BT adapter and I only use it for my cell phone.

    Two things about the lid:
First go to run-->services.msc and make sure that you have ATI HotKey Poller set to automatic, and make sure that it is started. If this is in manual or disable, then your LCD will stay on when your lid is closed.

For the second part, reflash your BIOS. I've had both problems. I don't know why it does it or what happened, but if you open the LCD sometimes it has a hard time detecting that it is open. I flashed the BIOS since I heard that was a possible solution, and never had the problem again. Another option is to close the lid, and slowly open it.

On the BT issue, I have the same problem except with my wifi card. I would suggest reinstalling the BT drivers or changing over to XP's stack (it is included with SP 2). If you installed the BT driver, then you should have Toshiba software to control it.

LOL, i'm not sure for nVidia drivers. You might check your nVidia settings. I'll see if i can find a service that might control it for nVidia.

Sorry, for some reason i assumed it was ATI video card.

Yeah, my M90's screen did that once when I first got it. I closed the lid and when I opened it back up, it wouldn't come back on. Only happened once. *knock on wood* Anyways, I changed the power settings to do nothing when I close the lid, but that's how I prefer it anyway. It hasn't done it since.

Once was after the camera installation and again after a windows update. It just started working randomly again. Weird. The Nvidia driver on Dell's site is newer than the one on Nvidia's. There must be a few kinks to still iron out.

Dell has recently released a Critical Update for the M1210 System BIOS. I'd suggest you download and install the update (don't forget to read the instructions on how to flash the BIOS).

    Keep us posted.

Dell BIOS update is pretty idiot proof thankfully. I already had problems after I reflashed but I'm pretty sure the problems were due to daemon tools raping my system.

Try burning your ISO's to CD's using Nero instead of using Daemon tools.

That's a huge waste. I'm just using an older version which works fine.

I went to a Dell Kiosk today to look at the M1210. I'm going to grad school in the fall and I want something more portable than my 7 pounder. My first impression was that it seemed too heavy for me, considering they tout it as an "ultraportable," but we all know it's more of a thin-and-light. Anyway, I closed the lid to get a good feel of the heaviness of the thing, and when I opened the lid, the screen wouldn't come back on. The sales person kept pushing buttons to get it to wake up or whatever, but to no avail. I had to hold the power button in for a few seconds and reboot it. Nice sales demo, eh?
I think I'm leaning toward the Averatec 1150 for the portability and price, although the Dell is still a close second. It's just so...heavy, dang it. (I'm going to wait till I start school and see if I even need to schelp one around. If not, I'll probably get the Dell).

I used the computer on my way up to Boston and now when I turn it on one light (I think the num lock light) stays solid and two lights are blinking. The computer won't start or anything. To even turn it off I have to remove the battery :(
