    Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501(specs in sig).
I noticed that in the BIOS the HDD is set to quiet.
I set it to max via Notebook Hardware Control
    Anyone else notice this?
It helped my performance a lot files open faster, smoother, & saving files is faster.

    NHC is wonderful program.

I use it instead of quickset from Dell on both my Dell laptops.

NHC also has some guide (not 100% dependable, but it's something) regarding on wear level on batteries.

You can also underclock your CPU to save power.

Battery hour may cut short. For example, CPU will always run at high capacity, LCD brightness will be high etc.

Is that the performance power profile, or the BIOS HDD option that is the alternative to quiet mode?

No I meant NHC can alter the HDD to performance mode not the entire computer(ex proc. speed stepping)

The drive will most probably consume more power and it will also probably make more noise.

What are the positive/negative advantages of setting the HDD from "quiet" to a higher setting?
