i basically did clean re-install but a couple things seemed odd.

1-When i was re-installing vista at no point was i asked for a product key.
Once installed i wen to welcome center> view computer details. Under the subtitle "windows activation" it sais

    "3 day(s) until automatic activation.Activate Windows now"
    "Product ID: xxxxx-OEM-XXXXXXX-XXXXX"

First the product keylisted here does not match the one under my laptop and when i try to enter the product key under my laptop it sais it is invalid for activation.

2-I was trying to download drivers from the dell web site and the service tag number under my laptop does not register. It also sais it is invalid.

3- was trying to install a driver for my video card and all goes well till the end. It sais something like this driver only works for vista 32bit and something like it isint detecting it.

im tired of trying to fix these issues on my own. If any one has any answers please post up. I think im goin to bed..

The Product Key you see on the bottom of your notebook and the Product ID displayed in System properties are not the same thing. I don’t know exactly what the difference is, but they are different.

If you used the bundled DELL OEM DVD, then it won’t ask for a Product Key during installation (that is normal), however it should be activated upon completing the installation. You don’t have to manually do anything.
Anyways, first try online activation, if that fails then call Microsoft, they’ll give you an activation code.

Again, I’m not sure why your service tag is rejected, but you can select M1530 downloads without using service tag. Here : It sais something like this driver only works for vista 32bit and something like it isint detecting it.[/QUOTE]
    hmm... strange....
nVidia driver is also available as a windows update, manually run Windows update and select it (not selected by default, since it is not classified as critical update). That should work. Or you can install the modified nvidia driver available at laptopvideo2go.com

Sounds like you tried to install the standard NVIDIA driver, from their website. Laptop chips are not supported by this driver.

The code on the bottom is the Product ID. It's like the 'name' of that copy of windows. The Product Key is like, the password or last name of that copy.

    They are both different.

And not being asked for the Product key during reinstall is normal. It's already slipstreamed onto the CD.

The other issues are likely errors by you or dell.
