My girlfriend ordered an M1330 for college and to begin with was satisfied enough with it. However, only about two, almost three months in, the battery doesn't work independently at all. More then that, the screen is beginning to get scratch imprints from the keyboard. As in, in the middle of the screen (with the screen off) you can clearly see the scratches of outlined keys.

I've looked at other problems that other M1330 owners have and haven't noticed any repeating issues of either the screen scratching in such a manner, or about their battery crapping out with a simple three months of casual use. (Note: The laptop does turn on and function, but only with the power cable plugged into the wall. When it does turn on, it says the battery is 9x% full and charging, but the laptop does not turn on on its own).

Are these problems enough to get the laptop replaced? I'm rather appalled at the build quality of a $2000 machine, and I'm even more worried at the dissatisfaction of people receiving replaced machines. At this point, is it even possible to get a refund?

    Any general advice?

Ring Dell and ask for a new battery. You can download this notebook hardware control to find out information about the state of your g/f's battery you will need to download the bugfix version. Some people seem to get different makes of batteries maybe some are better than others.

As for the screen issue put that to Dell also and maybe they might replace your g/f's screen. This issue has been discussed before and those that had an issue with this was using the cover that you get when you buy your computer that goes over the KB to protect their computer screens when they closed their computers it seems.
I haven't had this issue though.

I seriously doubt that you will get a refund from Dell now as you have passed your 30 day window and the problems mentioned are not to that level where i think they would offer a refund.
