I ordered a DELL XPS 17 on December 5th and selected 2nd business day delivery. At the time of the order, the estimated delivery date was December 16th.

On December 9th I received an email from DELL saying that my order was shipped, and gave me a tracking number as well. The DELL website has an updated delivery date of December 14th.

I clicked on the tracking link and was redirected to the Fedex tracking page. The page indicated that package was picked up on December 9th @ 4:41PM, arrived at Feded location (Oakland, CA) on the 10th around 11AM, and it's been IN TRANSIT since then with the location still showing Oakland, CA.

I assumed that IN TRANSIT means the package is on its way to me. Now... my home is only around 30min drive from their Oakland location. Today is the 11th and the page still shows that my laptop is in transit, with an estimated delivery on December 13 by 7PM. How can they take 3 whole days to make a 30min drive?!

And since I selected 2nd business day delivery, and Fedex already got my package on Saturday, shouldn't I receive my laptop on Monday? Or is it because Saturday doesn't count as a business day even though they are obviously working?

I know it's just a few days off and my problem is a lot smaller than some issues other posters have. I'm just puzzled by this whole shipment date and would like a bit of a clarification.

    Thank you for reading.

In transit can mean many things. If a package gets scanned at one of their depots and is going to another drop depot, it may show in transit once it departs until it's received at the next depot point.

In my SW Florida area, FedEx delivers on Saturdays but not on Mondays. My suggestion is to call FedEx via their 800 number and they'll answer your questions. It does seem strange it shows in your area but is just sitting there. I have also seen my stuff sit in their depot until the day before I was supposed to get it and then they released it.

The last thing is, I believe FedEx typically holds to their delivery schedule rules, in other words you won't see your stuff delivered earlier than expected because then others would start asking for the slowest delivery and hoping for their stuff to show up earlier.

It is strange that FedEx don't deliver on Monday in the area you live.

In transit can certainly mean what you said. Though in my case I do find it odd that it would take them a whole day to transport my package to another depot location, when my home is just 30min drive away from their Oakland branch.

While it is weird in my opinion that FedEx will hold to their deliver schedule no matter what, that's their company rule and I have no beef with that. I'll just have to call them up first thing in the morning and clear up the whole 2nd day delivery with them.

    Thank you for your response.
