I had a thread on here the other day asking about any problems people have had downloading SP1 to their Vista machine. Nearly everyone who responded said that their installation went off fine, so I was not too worried. I have an XPS M1530 and SP1 popped up in my windows update on 5/28. Sure enough, I downloaded it and the laptop fired back up no problem after it was done. Everything appeared fine.
Well, last night when I got home from work I turned it on and was not able to swipe my finger to enter my windows password. Strange. Error message said it could not find the Fingerprint Reader Suite on my system. Logged on and then discovered that my webcam was not functioning. Next my speakers. Looking at the device manager, I discovered that 5 of my 7 USB chipset drivers had been disabled. Called up Dell and the rep said that he had not seen this issue yet with Vista and SP1. Reinstallation of the drivers fixed the issue, but thought I would give NBR users a heads up.
Btw, XPS customer service from Dell was pretty awesome. Nothing against the cusotmer service from India, but I got a guy named David, who was in the US and was great to work with.

Just curious, were you using modded graphics drivers?
For the record all of my 3 vista computers were fine -
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
I wouldn't recommend sp1 as of now.

I have the SP1 even before the official RTM released as everything is fine...

Rambo- Its not like I went out actively seeking to download SP1. I took the advice of a lot of people in this forum and waited till SP1 was available through WU. -

There is no more words of caution.
Dell PRELOADS VISTA SP1 regardless of whether you get Home, Ultimate, Business. Go see their configuration options now, all the Vistas are indicated since yesterday with SP1. -
Good to know. There are quite a large number of people who have pending orders, so maybe they will find it helpful. -
I'm guessing you used the standalone update?
Windows update wont offer SP1 for the M1530 unless you have updated the sigmatel sound and fingerprint drivers because certain versions are "problematic". If you use the standalone it will install with the problematic drivers in place and may cause problems until you reinstall the drivers. Sounds like exactly what you experienced.
A Word of Caution for those downloading SP1
