Hello:
1) Seems like whenever I go to configure my dream 1720 notebook, I am not seeing an option for a 7200RPM drive. Is this correct? I only ask because in another post on this forum someone mentioned that one of the differences between the Vostro and Inspiron 17" was that the Inspiron 1720 allowed for 7200RPM drive. Everyone else also only seeing 5400RPM on the 1720?
2) Am I correct in noticing that Dell took out the DVI port from the Inspiron? Gosh, I wonder why? We have a nice Sony Bravia TV which takes HDMI as input and it would have been great to run the laptop on there. Since my parents are getting on in the years, a small notebook is not good for them and they need 1720 because of their eyes. Is the XPS 1330 the only way to go then if one wanted HDMI output? Bummer...I wish Dell would make a 17" with HDMI.
3) Although I read the Dell forum almost daily I am not hearing much about this new Creative Sound card Express or something option they are giving...any words or reviews on that? Is it worth getting?
Okay, that about does it. At your convenience, answer to any of the above would be most welcome. Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
1) Took a look at the site just now... and indeed, it seems like they are not offering 7200 RPM drives. May just be a temporary short supply?
2) Yes, the new Inspirons don't have DVI outputs. -
1. Its not just you. You have to call dell to get 7200, from what the people on the forum say.
2. Yes, Dell took out the DVIs.
3. The second upgrade option is only a software so don't get that. The Creative sound card, the third option, is a rip off. Not really x-fi, the chip isn't on there. -
Neither HDMI or the faster HDD is available on the 1720. It never has

hmm, really?
i remember a post of a 1720 owner who got it by calling dell -
call dell about the 7200 rpm drive, their website sometimes has problems and you need to calll and hassle them to get what you want.
When I ordered my vostro the 256 megabyte video card was taken off the website and they had to go all the way to a senior manager to get someone to finally make my configuration I wanted work -
the 1520 has a 7200 rpm hard drive on the website so it is most likely an error with the website. there is no reason why you wouldnt be able to put that same part in the 1720.

Everyone:
Thank you so much. Okay, one way or another I'll make sure to get the 7200RPM drive. Many thanks.
