I ordered mine on 02/07 and my original ship date was 02/16 but I have checked the page and it shows that it has been at the boxing step since around 3pm yesterday. I called in and they said it would still not be shipped until the 16th. When I tried to explain my issue with that there was a breakdown between my English and the persons on the phone where we were not communicating well. So does anyone here know if since it is now at boxing if it will really sit there for a week and then ship on the 16th. I paid $86 for overnight so I would have it by the 17th but if its just sitting there for a week then I could have gotten normal shipping and had it by the 17th still.

Dell assembles their laptops in Malayasia...from there they get shipped here to the US. The boxing stage also includes the shipping to the states where they are boxed. Dell explained this to me when I called them about it. Once it is boxed it will be sent to the regional distribution center...depends on where you live....mine was Chicago I believe and from there it takes whatever shipping method you specified.

    I hope this helps. :)

    By the way...Welcome to NBR.

I completely understand...I know how that is, I went through the same thing when I ordered my I9300. It is a great thing once you get that box. :)

boxing takes 3-5 days. if you paid for normal ground you would have gotten it 5-7 days after it landed in the US and went thru dell's distro here. paying for overnight means you paid for overnight service from the time is lands in the US and goes thru dell's distro here.

the shipping method you paid for does not start at the boxing stage, it starts at the time the notebook gets processed through dell's distro here.

if you call back and complain, you may be able to get a freebie or something.

dumb question.... Are Dell laptops shipped (as in on a big boat) or flown from Malaysia to the US? If they are shipped. perhaps the 3-5 days is how long it takes to cross the ocean.

I ordered my e1705 on 2/8 and am also waiting.....

They would be flown from Malayasia I believe. The 3-5 days it what it takes Dell to unload...search and process the boxing...IE all the manuals and placing the boxes...getting the documention, and shipping details on all the comps. At least that is what my take is on it.

I orderd my 9300 like 3 weeks ago or something but anyways the boxing stage for me took like 2 days (COMPLETE DAYS and after 3 days of everything else it was on the boxing stage) and then it was shipped on a friday afternoon or something. I don't know if they just screwed up on mine or something but I got overnight shipping set on mine and they had it to me monday morning it was beautiful.

AND YES THAT BOX FROM FED EX IS BEAUTIFUL!!

Well....here is the problem that I had.

When my I9300 went into shipping...I checked the UPS site and they said estimated delivery of 3-days later than overnight.

I called UPS and asked them why that was, they told me that Dell has a "Do not deliver before date" on the packages.

I then had to call Dell and get them on the phone with UPS to get my computer delivered. It sucked, but I got my computer the next day! :) So I figured it was a good deal, 1 hour spent resolving the issue saved me 2-days off the delivery of my computer.

I wanted the XGA screen personally. Not just to save $150 but because the "Optimal resolution" for the UXGA is SO high. I don't want to have to use that res all the time. But from having a LCD Monitor, the optimal resolution definately makes a differences.

I had gotten a Dell 19 Inch 1905FP monitor for Xmas. I use Windows at 1280 and of course it looks great. I play WoW have always liked 1024. Then one day i thought to change it to match the optimal of 1280.. and wow... big differences. So much clearer. Going back to 1024 makes it almost look fuzzy.

Im rambling. Anyway I wanted the XGA like i said because I like it's optimal better. Of course if I get an actual bad screen as in defective, that's a whole 'nother story.

then I also ordered a new booq backpack for it since I am not going to give up my 1G TIbook yet (i am waiting until i get a stable copy of OSX Intel to get rid of all my mac hardware)

the only thing that makes me sad about this is that I don't have a dock that lets me drive two external monitors. I know I can just plug them in but I like the ease of a dock.

The sadist part is I don’t play many games anymore. I have found that I only really play a few hours a month if I even play at all. I do a lot of .net dev work and graphic design. I am running a dual 2800 amd desktop w/2gb of ram right now but I find that a laptop allows me a little more flexibility and my desktop is starting to get a little slow and I don’t want to upgrade it again. The desktop is getting a simple cooling setup on it I am going to strip the cd and dvd drives as well as scale the vid card down to the most basic and I will drop it in a closet and make it a file server. Now that being said I am going to have to fire up cod2 and see it run and also civ 4. The main apps I run are vmware, 3dsmax, visual studio, photoshop, and after effects.

I wouldn't say everything. The XUGA screen 1900x1200 is very taxing on the video card. That is the only reason I opted for the 1440x900 WXGA+, I play all my games on native rez with no slowdown on my I9300.

The I9400 card is better, but I think it will still have difficulties running FEAR on 1900x1200 with everything on high.

    Just my $.02.

My "OVERNIGHT" was set for 4-days I called Dell they blamed on FedEx, called FedEx they blamed on Dell, called Dell they called FedEx and said was taken care of, called FedEx later that day to see if they got the update from Dell....no we don't it shows 4 days from now.....I say It shows overnight with a Delivery Estimate of 4 days from now that doesn't make sense....FedEx ***** calls me back and is going on and on about how Dell keeps loading "Overnights" on to the wrong truck and it's their fault. Dell has refunded my shipping and I got it the day after overnight would have had it there. My carrying case still took 3 days.

See...that is what makes me mad. But I made sure that I got a supervisor...and I called the UPS person DIRECT. They got it worked out and it didn't show in the system until the next day. But hey...at least you got your money back. :p

Yeah. :) I had a feeling that it would come sooner. I mean sitting in boxing for a WEEK would of been rediculous. It coming monday would mean it was exactly 1 week from order to me. Not too bad at all in retrospect.

Monday is ok with me in the sense that I have a busy weekend with my girlfriend planned so I wont even notice the time. Actually I don't want it to go too fast since we have a rather expensive Victorian Style Hotel room reserved in San Francisco and I want us to "enjoy it." but that's probably too much info for you. :

The downside to Monday for me is that I have school. So I am gonna have to rush home after work to grab it before I head right back out on the train to goto school (also in San Fran actually.)

However I will be able to use the laptop IN class. I don't think my teacher will mind me following along on it. It's a class for Maya. :)

    Excited!
