Does anyone else have this problem: The laptop display does not come back on after it has switched off for power save. The machine is still on, I can shut it down using hotkeys. I can also bring the laptop display back on back on by attaching a monitor and disabling/reabling it in the display properties. It does not come back when I use the Fn+F8 display switch.

    It is a 9400, with Go 7800

You should be able to touch the mouse or key to bring it back. You might try closing the lid and reopening it.

I haven't had much luck with the monitor being turned off for power save. I would just use stand by mode or hibernation, and close your lid when you are away. Just my suggestion...

Tried all the obvious things like that, I'd have to press a few keys to get it going in the external display! I've heard someone complain out this before with another Dell. I always set my laptops to 'do nothing' on closing the lid for a number of reasons. I;ve never had a problem with screen timeouts before and I've been through a lot of laptops (at least one a year). I suppose I could disable the time out and close the lid, but quicks like this annoy me a bit. I fix other peoples laptops for a living, was just looking for quick solution but I suppose I'll have to investigate further.

I really don't know the solution on it. I've had so many problems with my dell and power management issues that you probably wouldn't believe me if i told you.

The only solution so far that i've seen work is flashing the BIOS - even if it is the same version. Theoretically, when you reformat, you don't do any damage to your BIOS, but from my experiences, something is changing in the BIOS when I format. There are a few other users (AMDvsIntel is one I believe) that have had problems with the display and power settings. Some laptops won't come back on from standby, some come back from hibernation with a white screen, etc.
